
REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) seeks an experienced Assistant Curator to provide administrative and curatorial support for its exhibitions and public programs. Reporting to the REDCAT Chief Curator and Deputy Director, Programs, the Assistant Curator works on all elements of exhibition planning and programming, including artist coordination, production, research, budgets, and project management.
This is a 2-year fixed term, full-time salaried position with benefits. Assistant Curator is expected to work an average of 37.5 hours per week and have availability at least five days per week and weekends as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide exhibition support for REDCAT’s programming.
Work closely with the Chief Curator and Deputy Director, Programs to develop and implement exhibitions and programs.
Conduct curatorial research for exhibitions, programming and publications.
Coordinate and assist with organizing checklists, layouts, texts, image permissions, shipping, and installation preparations.
Assist in generating contracts and agreements with artists, independent contractors, and lenders.
Track artist and loan correspondence, and communication with REDCAT staff.
Synchronize calendars with REDCAT staff, artists, collaborators, and other stakeholders in order to maintain the exhibition production timeline.
Coordinate materials for exhibition catalogs and liaison with writers, editors, and designers.
Organize materials for the archive preservation process, including project research, correspondence and contracts, technical assessments, and other important institutional records.
Give tours of REDCAT exhibitions to both the public and REDCAT stakeholders as needed.
Provide grant reporting support, such as maintaining deadlines and submitting reports.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent verbal and oral communication skills. Editing or proofreading experience is a plus.
Ability to work independently in an organized manner.
Knowledgeable of international art communities.
Knowledge of a foreign language is a plus.
Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
Experience with curatorial research.
B.A. or B.F.A. degree in an arts-related field; M.A. degree, or commensurate experience, as in previous museum, non-profit, or gallery experience is a plus.

Salary
$55,907 - $61,289 a year
