SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION

Position Title: Assistant Cook Manager

Department: Nutrition Services

Immediate Supervisor's Position Title: Director of Nutrition Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Wage Range: $23.44

Hours:8 hours

General Summary of Purpose of Job:

Assist in the total operation of the South St Paul Secondary Kitchen. Perform as a lead person to successfully accomplish the job responsibilities associated with food service support to the Cook Manager, miscellaneous food service kitchen duties and other duties as assigned by the Cook Manager and Nutrition Services Director.

SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare breakfast and lunch menu items as directed by Kitchen Manager and Nutrition Services Director
  • Serve student breakfast, lunch and/or a la carte items, includes operating POS
  • Point of service and monitoring for reimbursable meals.
  • Use proper cleaning procedures to ensure that federal, state and local safety and sanitation regulations are followed.
  • Use proper inventory control including ordering, storage, handling, organization and rotation of items in the storeroom, cooler and freezer, and including lifting items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Fills in for Cook Manager when Cook Manager is absent.
  • Attend educational classes, in-services and/or workshops as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff and program operation.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Cook Manager, Nutrition Services Director, Principal or the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.

SECTION III: WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum education and experience required to perform adequately in position could reasonably be attained only by completing the following:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Advanced training and hold a current Certified Food Protection Manager certificate from the state of Minnesota. If not currently certified, must receive certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be and/or become proficient in operation of computer and all record keeping and procedures of the meal account system.
  • Demonstrated prompt, regular and reliable attendance
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Experience with high volume, scratch food preparation and service
  • Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email, Internet navigation and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to multi-task in an organized, timely manner.Ability to anticipate the work that needs to be done and respond to change quickly.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working cooperatively and congenially with other employees and Supervisors.
  • Understanding of and ability to act as a confidential employee regarding staff and Students.
  • Ability to determine, prioritize, schedule and complete complex job assignments and projects without supervision and within the time allocated.
  • Ability to operate independently and effectively while following established procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to anticipate and/or recognize problems and/or complications and to determine and implement practical corrective solutions to problems and issues.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with individuals regardless of socioeconomic status or intellectual capacity.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills when completing unique or complex job assignments.
  • Ability to determine what is confidential and proprietary information and how to use that information in a proper manner.
  • Ability to communicate positively about the school district at all times even under negative circumstances.
  • Perform under normal kitchen conditions where there are minimal negative environmental factors.
  • Perform within moderate to high noise levels.
  • Perform at moderate to high pace for extended periods of time.
  • Perform in a kitchen environment with professionalism and proficiency.
