Under the supervision of the Head Cook, the Assistant Cook shall be responsible for working within the framework of Harbor Child Care, carrying out its functions, policies, and procedures which include, but are not limited to:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reports to the Head Cook to serve food to children ages infants thru 12 years old.
- Under supervision of the Head Cook, the Assistant Cook is responsible for assisting the Head Cook in preparing, cooking and serving all food in the center in accordance with the standards set forth by the U.S.D.A. Food Program and NYS OCFS regulations.
- Under supervision of the Head Cook, the Assistant Cook is responsible for assisting the Head Cook in maintaining the kitchen in a sanitary and efficient condition in accordance with standards set forth by the Nassau County Department of Health.
- Follows all CACFP guidelines.
- Follows the weekly menu.
- Apportions food for children’s groups according to need.
- Works with the Head Cook in washing dishes and utensils according to sanitary practices, and maintains kitchen equipment and food storage rooms in clean, sanitary and orderly condition.
- Works with the Head Cook in removing kitchen garbage to outside receptacle and cleans container.
- Works with the Head Cook in storing food and household supplies.
- Attends monthly staff meetings/training
- Cares for children in the event of an emergency or unusual number of teacher absences and will perform any other reasonable duty as needed for the cohesive operation of the child care center.
- Takes the role of Head Cook when the Head Cook is absent

QualificationsMust be at least 18 years old.
HS Diploma or equivalent.
Must have experience working in food services.
Flexibility in availability.
