Overview

Job Summary

You will assist the Controller in directing financial activities to include areas such as yields, product costing, payroll, cattle procurement, accounts payable, general ledger activities, and other financial report creation. You will be involved in activities and expense reviews to provide the organization with accurate information.

As our Assistant Controller, you will:

  • Work with the Controller to prepare reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations, including developing and entering general ledger entries and preparing various account reconciliations.
  • Help supervise and manage the plant accounting operations to include Product Costing, Inventory Management, General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Cattle Payable, and Payroll.
  • Review AP invoices for coding and sales/use tax; Keep up on sales tax charges.
  • Review banking activity, working cross-functionally to send and receive payment files, review clearings, and all other wire/ACH payments.
  • Track capital expenditure projects and work with the tax team to capitalize when necessary; Understand corporate cap ex policies.
  • Participate in yearend closing and audits. Process 1099’s, Unclaimed Property and provide tax team with information for tax and finance organizers.
  • Monitor the control and accuracy of inventory and inventory values.
  • Work closely with the Controller to analyze operating & financial data, resulting in plant improvements.
  • Oversee and continually review procedures within accounting to streamline the accounting function.
  • Create on-time and accurate reporting of daily, weekly, and monthly results, to be reviewed by plant management.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration or 5 or more years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proven organizational skills to guide individuals and groups toward desired outcomes, set high-performance standards, and deliver leading quality services.
  • Must have the ability to operate independently through thought leadership, decision making, and actions.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and others as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Office products and ERP systems.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to navigate through complex and challenging managerial situations.
  • Ability to understand the organization's vision, translate into specific, actionable plans, and hold team members accountable to achieve desired results.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to coordinate multiple projects/tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate with a high level of energy and urgency toward business priorities, exhibiting a strong desire to improve themselves and others.
  • Ability and desire to visit production floor to foster strong relationships and broaden understanding of operations.

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, desk phones, and smartphones. The position will also be required to regularly visit production facility work environments. Summary

America's Heartland Packing is set to open its doors in early 2025. The 775,000 sq. ft. greenfield project will include a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing area, storage coolers, freezers, and loading docks.
