Job Summary
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for direct oversight of Mesa's core operational accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy of financial data and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. In this role, you will be responsible for various tasks, including supporting the accounting team, taking ownership to help overcome challenges, monitoring and implementing internal controls and policies, ensuring a timely close cycle, managing journal entries, and reviewing accounting information for accuracy. This position requires strong attention to detail, must have excellent communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, self-motivation, and great organizational abilities. The Assistant Controller must value excellence within their work and will maintain the integrity of accounting records and files.
Essential Duties
Oversee Mesa's core accounting operations, ensuring tasks are completed timely and accurately.
Assist in the formulation and monitoring of internal controls and policies to comply with GAAP and established best practices.
Regularly review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
Assist in the preparation of data for financial reporting and participate in the monthly financial review process with company leadership.
Build a high-performing accounting team through direct supervision, mentorship, and professional development.
Participate as a key member of the annual audit exercise.
Improve processes and implement efficiencies, such as automating repetitive, manual accounting tasks.
Manage journal entries, invoices, etc., and reconcile accounts for the monthly and annual close processes.
Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts where needed.

QualificationsEducation
Required
4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university.
Experience
Required
7 years of accounting experience.
3 years of supervisory experience as an accounting manager, assistant controller or controller.
Honorably discharged service veterans are preferred.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations
Required
CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
Preferred
CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Working knowledge of at least one accounting package. QuickBooks preferred.
Experience with and knowledge of subscription-based revenue streams.
Strong analytical skills.
Budgeting experience.
Able to communicate effectively with clients and accounting staff.
Experience with the implementation of a new general ledger package.
Understanding of payroll laws, regulations and systems.
Must demonstrate positive leadership, effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to perform duties with minimal supervision, able to meet deadlines, and consistently use good judgment.
Must be reliable and able to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The Assistant Controller must have advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint and data base management.
Ability to work with various levels of staff.
Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read in English.
