Job Description

This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a motivated Assistant Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Technician to join our growing San Diego, CA team. This is a hands-on, fast‑paced role ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, learning technical skills, and contributing to high‑impact infrastructure projects.

Our San Diego laboratory performs over 150 accredited tests and supports a wide range of clients and agencies. Many projects require rapid turnaround times, meaning adaptability and strong work ethic are essential. Your Impact

  • Perform laboratory testing on soil, concrete, hot mix asphalt, masonry, and steel following established ASTM, AASHTO, and other standard test methods.
  • Develop proficiency in a wide range of laboratory procedures and earn industry-recognized testing certifications.
  • Support laboratory accreditation programs and take on progressively increasing responsibilities in daily operations.
  • Contribute to high‑quality, timely testing services for clients, agencies, and major construction projects across the region.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Holds a high school diploma or GED and demonstrates the willingness and capability to learn technical testing procedures
  • Reliable and hardworking, with consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work and able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to work schedules that align with project needs, including occasional nights, weekends, and overtime.
  • Possesses basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and can follow standard formulas.
  • Works effectively as part of a team but can also perform tests independently once trained.
  • Flexible, motivated, and eager to learn a wide variety of testing methods in a dynamic laboratory environment.

    Compensation
    Expected Salary: $48,100 - $66,100
    WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
