Assistant Construction Manager - Civils - Glasgow

Duties:

  • Oversee civils operations providing a key site-based link between Civils Supervisors, CMs on projects undertaken by SPL Powerlines UK Limited.
  • Oversee operations on a day-to-day basis and ensure that work is delivered in accordance with contract specification and HSQE requirements.
  • Ensure site teams are compliant in having all required site paperwork, that these are valid, fit for use and fully signed off.
  • Reviewing work programmes to scope out locations in advance to feedback potential issues with proposed solutions for upcoming works.
  • Provide key management and technical support to site teams.
  • Oversee site reports and produce a works breakdown email detailing works undertaken and any issues or concerns raised.
  • Work with the Project Engineers / CM in planning works with plant and resource to ensure these are fit and correct for the works to be undertaken.
  • Dissemination of information and ensuring client/contract requirements are met in full.
  • Liaising with the sub-contractors with regard to programme, progress, quality and health & safety.
  • Perform, encourage and promote NOTE Close Call reporting and any other safety initiatives.
  • Ensure site teams are undertaking relevant pre-start checks on plant and equipment.
  • Maintain and submit accurate site records, site safety inspections and daily site reports including personnel working hours.
  • Support Supervisors with escalation of onsite issues through the appropriate channels and ensure clear detail is within shift reports.
  • Assist site teams in problem solving and point of work risk assessments to ensure works can be carried out where safe to do so.
  • Monitor labour, plant and material usage and report any issues through the appropriate channels.
  • On-site reporting of accidents and initiating the SPL response to any emergency.
  • Liaison with Clients representatives and stakeholders (including statutory bodies and third parties).
  • Monitoring work progress and compliance to specifications and standards and collate documentation and records.
  • Review programme and project progress with PE’s / CM
  • Knowledge and understanding of collaborative working. Implementation of collaborative projects.
  • Assist SPL Management and any other aspect of the Company where required.
  • Ensure that you and your staff receive a briefing from your COSS regarding the railway safety protection in place i.e. possession details, isolation details etc.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to monitor progress and check quality of installation
  • Ensure that all environmental issues are adhered to within the Company’s Environmental Awareness and Education Module.
  • Any other duties in order to support the business and delivery of process and procedure both on and off site.

The person:

  • Experience in supervising/leading Civils/OLE projects and operatives on the projects.
  • Experience in management of members of the team and other employees.
  • Problem solver and solution seeker.
  • Ability to remain calm, assess situations and act accordingly in line with procedures.
  • Valid PTS and OLEC qualifications
  • Computer literacy - working tablet and software applications.
  • Willingness to travel and to learn and open minded for new technologies
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and support as required
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Full driving licence and vehicle
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to stay calm and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work weekends and night shift.
