The Assistant Women's Soccer Coach serves as a key member of the Women's Soccer program and assists the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a competitive NCAA Division III program. This position supports the development of student-athletes through coaching, instruction, recruiting, academic support, and mentorship while promoting the mission and values of Plymouth State University, the Department of Athletics, and NCAA Division III athletics. Working under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach contributes to practice planning, game preparation, recruiting efforts, player development, and program administration. The position requires strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to foster a positive and inclusive environment that supports the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes. This position may be considered essential personnel during athletic events, team travel, and other designated departmental activities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Coaching & Student-Athlete Development (50%)

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and competitions

  • Provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes

  • Support individual and team skill development

  • Assist with scouting opponents and preparing game strategies

  • Promote a positive team culture focused on sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and student-athlete well-being

  • Monitor student-athlete progress and provide mentorship and support as appropriate

Recruiting & Talent Evaluation (25%)

  • Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes

  • Communicate with prospective student-athletes, families, coaches, and admissions personnel

  • Attend recruiting events, tournaments, showcases, and camps as assigned

  • Maintain recruiting records and assist with recruiting correspondence

  • Support all recruiting activities in accordance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations

Program Administration & Operations (15%)

  • Assist with team travel planning, equipment management, scheduling, and other operational needs

  • Support organization of camps, clinics, and community engagement activities

  • Assist with game-day operations and event management responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records and complete administrative duties as assigned by the Head Coach

Compliance, Communication & Departmental Support (10%)

  • Adhere to and help enforce NCAA, conference, and institutional policies and procedures

  • Participate in departmental meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities

  • Collaborate effectively with athletic department staff, faculty, admissions personnel, and campus partners

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Women's Soccer program and Athletics Department

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Experience participating in and/or coaching soccer at the high school, club, collegiate, or equivalent competitive level

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of soccer fundamentals, tactics, and player development principles

  • Ability to teach and demonstrate soccer skills effectively

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to recruit and evaluate prospective student athletes

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required

  • Commitment to supporting the academic success and overall development of student athletes

  • Working knowledge of NCAA Division III philosophy and regulations, or the ability to learn and apply them

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Collegiate playing experience

  • Collegiate coaching experience

  • Experience recruiting prospective student athletes

  • Experience working within an NCAA athletic program

  • Goalkeeper coaching, strength and conditioning, video analysis, or other specialized soccer coaching experience

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive student-athlete experience
