The part-time assistant field hockey coach is a vital member of the athletics department, supporting
the head coach in all aspects of the NCAA Division III field hockey program here at Plymouth State
University. This position contributes to the development of student-athletes through on-field coaching, practice and game preparation, and adherence to institutional and NCAA guidelines. The assistant coach plays an important role in fostering a positive team culture, promoting academic success, and supporting the holistic growth of each athlete. The role requires a solid understanding of field hockey tactics and strategy, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic collegiate athletics environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Coaching & Player Development (50%)

  • Assist the head coach with planning and conducting practices, skill sessions, and in-game strategy.

  • Provide individual and small-group instruction with a focus on technical and tactical
    development.

  • Offer real-time feedback and support during practices and competitions to foster athlete growth.

  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and competitive team environment

Game Day Preparation & Support (25%)

  • Assist in developing game plans and scouting reports.
    Support logistics related to game day operations, including equipment, warm-ups, and sideline management.

  • Provide tactical and strategic insight during games in collaboration with the head coach.

Recruitment & Outreach (15%)

  • Assist with identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes consistent with the college’s academic and athletic standards.

  • Represent the program at recruiting events, showcases, and campus visits, as assigned.

  • Support communication with recruits through email, phone, and social media platforms.

Administrative & Compliance Support (5%)

  • Assist with travel planning, equipment management, and team communication.
    Help ensure adherence to NCAA Division III and institutional rules and policies.
    Maintain practice logs, participation records, and other required documentation.

Professional Development & Departmental Engagement (5%)

  • Attend staff meetings, compliance trainings, and professional development opportunities.

  • Contribute to the broader athletic department culture through collaboration and support of department initiatives.
