POSTING SUMMARY

Reporting to the Clinical Manager of Hematology/Oncology, the successful candidate will work closely with the other members of the patient care leadership team in leading the advancement of quality and safety at the program level. As the primary leader for daily operations, they will be the first resource for staff on issues related to quality and safety, patient and family relations and some human resources functions as delegated. The successful candidate willdemonstrateexcellent leadership,organizationand communication skills through engagement with staff, medical staff,patientsand families. In keeping with the mission and value statements of the Hospital, they will also:

MAIN RESPONSABILITIES 

  • Work in collaboration with the Clinical Manager to develop departmental goals andstrategies

  • Partner with quality improvement team to build knowledge within team aboutCHEOworkstools and processes.

  • Participate in unit huddles and Leader Rounding with staff as well as patients/families.

  • Work in collaboration with the Staffing Office to ensure adequate coverage of staff to provide quality service to patients and families in thePSU

  • Act as leader and change agent in continuous improvement initiatives

  • Lead team morale, wellness initiatives within team

  • Ensure that staff has adequate trainingin order toprovide quality service to patients and families in thePSU

  • Lead the implementation of Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) bundles and culture initiatives (ie safety coaches)

  • Participate in evaluation and continuous improvement processes related to thisrole

  • Represent the PSU on unit, program, and hospital committees asrequired

  • Monitor and investigate safety reports and implement/improve systems to reduce errors and safety events.

  • Organize and lead inventory reviews andfacilitateordering asrequired

  • Participate in product evaluation processes and notify team of relevant changes (i.e.Back orders, new product, etc.)

  • Monitor data and report on regular basis:

  • Human resource trendsimpactingbudgetsuch as OT, consecutive weekend, etc.

  • Patient care activity data such as visit volume, admissions/discharges, wait times, etc.

  • safety data such as hand hygiene compliance, # of CLABSIs, safety reporting system trends

  • Recruitment, orientation, training/development, retention, sick time, vacation, leaves, etc.

  • Develop protocol/practices and policies that maximize team collaboration, standardize processes, support projectcompletionand evaluation.

  • Be flexible and adaptable to programneeds

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursingor other health field (Experience and formal training combined withdemonstratedperformance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements(Essential)

  • 2yearof formal or informal leadership experience (Essential)

  • Demonstrated ability as a role model, collaborative team player (Essential)

  • Commitment to, and experience in advancing heath equity for Indigenous and diverse populations and acting with cultural humility (Essential)

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and promote change (Essential)
