As the Assistant Circulation Supervisor, you will perform a variety of customer service duties including assisting with finding library materials, using the catalog, and helping customers to check out items and place holds. In this role, you will handle all circulation duties, shelve library materials, and maintain displays. You will also perform various clerical and specialized duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBLITIES
Including the following:

- Demonstrates tactful and conscientious service to people of all ages, races, abilities, cultures, and genders.
- Coordinates and directs assigned hourly staff, including maintenance of hourly schedule.
- Provides training, coaching, and feedback for performance evaluations for hourly staff.
- Provides training to new hires, volunteers, and existing staff.
- Troubleshoots customer concerns and system database problems.
- Creates positive experiences for library customers by effectively and efficiently performing tasks; presents a positive image of the library in attitude, communications, and appearance while performing duties in both the public and staff areas.
- Provides accurate informational and directional assistance to customer inquiries.
- Oversees and performs shelving duties such as loading and unloading carts, ordering, sorting, and shelving books, media, magazines, etc.
- Performs opening and closing circulation duties including opening and closing the library facility.
- Prepares and presents departmental reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis as required.
- Assists Circulation Supervisor in hiring department staff.
- Handles telephone customer service transactions.
- May offer readers advisory assistance, as directed by the Library Assistants, Librarians, and by the Library Manager.
- Assists with collection maintenance, as directed by Circulation Supervisor.
- Demonstrates a professional, positive, cooperative, flexible, team-oriented working relationship with staff, co-workers, and volunteers.
- Helps to maintain safety, security and healthy environments in the library. Responds to facility hazards and emergencies according to protocols.
- Stays current on Poudre Libraries policies, processes, procedures, events, and technologies required to perform work duties. Participates in training and continuing education as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Must possess excellent customer service experience and skills, including deescalating difficult patrons and navigating occasional volatile situations.
- Must possess excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a diverse population, co-workers, and supervisor.
- Advanced knowledge of circulation functions including check-in, check-out, placing holds, waiving fees, working with accounts (referred to a material recovery service) with up to $150 in unresolved materials, searching customer databases, customer registration, and issuing library cards.
- Must work effectively both independently and cooperatively as part of a team and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to do detailed work accurately.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including night and weekend shifts.
- Knowledge of standard/basic office software, including word processing, and database applications.
- Knowledge of state law pertaining to privacy of library user records.
- Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Knowledge of general office equipment operations and maintenance.
EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) is required.
- Minimum of two years of library or retail experience is required.

LANGUAGE ABILITIES
- Ability to read, speak, and communicate in English fluently is required.
- Ability to read, speak, and communicate in Spanish fluently is desirable.
- Conversational ability in other languages is desirable.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for overseeing and directing hourly employees, volunteers, and work study staff. This position is not responsible for the supervision of classified employees.
WORK ENVIRONMENT + PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed and/or required to:
- This position works a 4-week rotating schedule of 20 hours per week. Most weeks consist of four 5-hour shifts, Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday. Every fourth week, the 20 hours are worked across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the seven days prior scheduled off.
- Work primarily in a public library environment and sometimes in community settings.
- The demands on the visual sense are very high.
- Regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, talk and hear.
- Regularly reach, lift and move arms above shoulder level.
- Occasionally push moveable carts weighing up to 150 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance.
- Concentrate on and complete tasks in the presence of distractions.
- Regularly operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, point of sale system, bar code reader, copy and fax machines.
- Continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
- Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
- Work shifts vary and occur during all library operating hours.
