Job Description

As a member of the Johns Hopkins Hospital management team, the Assistant CMO is responsible The physician holding this role will be primarily responsible for monitoring and improving throughput and other operational issues.

The candidate is empowered to impact change related to the operations, safety, and quality of care concerning throughput issues.

The Assistant CMO reports to the Associate Chief Medical Officer at JHCC for this role. However, it is expected that considerable overlap and interactions with medical directors of other Units/Divisions/Centers may occur to execute the responsibilities of the position entirely.

Duties:

  • Collaborates with the Capacity Command Center (JHCC CCC) and interdisciplinary care team to impactchange related to the safety, quality, coordination, and efficiency of medical care
  • Regular review and action plans coordinated (when needed) with the JHCC CCC Nurse Leader for the following safety metrics:
    • Serious Safety Events involving throughput
    • HERO events involving throughput and JHCC CCC
  • Monthly meetings with the Associate Chief Medical Officer and other Medical Directors
  • Participate in the workup and root cause analysis of serious events relevant to throughput
  • Monitor and analyze patient-related data and outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement concerning throughput and JHCC CCC
  • Collaborates with the various Training Program Directors (Residency and Fellowships) to identify, trend, and review hazards relevant to observed inadequate trainee oversight and supervision
  • Serve on the Following Committees (at a minimum):
    • CUSP Team in the assigned care area as Physician Champion
    • Clinical Operations monthly meeting
    • JHCC Quality and Safety monthly meeting
    • JHCC CCC HERO Review meetings and activities (as applicable)
    • Attend other meetings with relevant stakeholders germane to throughput and JHCC CCC as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Good understanding of business and organizational planning principles, coordination, and execution.
  • Extensive knowledge of administrative methods and procedures. Good understanding of the organization and operations of the work area.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of current hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to recommend policies, procedures, and problem resolutions to accomplish the organization's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Ability to apply safety, quality, and performance improvement standards within the unit.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, under varied conditions, with clinical and ancillary staff, practitioners, organization leaders, and a variety of people at all management levels

Qualifications

The incumbent must be a fully licensed and credentialed attending staff category physician on the medical staff of Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

The candidate should be board-certified or board-eligible in their relevant discipline and have 2-3 years of experience in their primary practice field. Additional training/education or an advanced degree in administrative medicine, public health, or the principles of improvement science is highly desirable but not required.

Candidates should be familiar with performance improvement principles, resource management, care coordination, safety, risk, and regulatory affairs.

The candidate should spend a significant amount of their clinical time in their field.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
