This position is responsible for assisting in the development of the athletes on the Cheer Squad in the Spiritleader Program, serving as a leader and role model, and coordinating/collaborating with other coaches to create an effective Spiritleader Program. The Assistant Cheer Coach collaborates with the other program coaches and the Head Cheer Coach on sideline duties, competition preparation, uniform selection, and all related program events throughout the year. In collaboration with the Spiritleader Advisor, Director of Student Activities, and the Head Coaches, the Assistant Cheer Coach provides a vision for the Spiritleader Program in the areas of Christian leadership, character development, academics, school spirit, crowd participation, and competition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Partnership, Coordination, and Collaboration
- - Partner and collaborate with the other program coaches during the Sideline season to unify all Spiritleaders while implementing and maintaining a high quality among participants
- - Coordinate with Head Coach, Spiritleader Advisor, and Director of Student Activities regarding ordering and purchasing of uniforms and other apparel, and ensure they align with Orange Lutheran Dress Guidelines and branding
- - Work alongside other program coaches to continue traditional school cheers/routines and create new cheers/routines to help promote school spirit
- - Assist in planning, implementing, and attending the Orange Lutheran Spiritleader Summer Program
- Leadership
- - Responsible for being present and on time at all JV games that the Spiritleaders attend, all competitions, rallies, and school functions that involve a Spiritleader aspect
- - Assign JV sideline captains and hold them accountable to the duties and expectations of the captains and their roles as leaders of the team
- - Ensure that the captains/team are upholding the Core Values of Orange Lutheran High School
- - Effectively communicate with athletes and parents in a professional and timely manner using the communication methods provided by the Spiritleader Advisor and Director of Student Activities
- - Responsible for demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ in word, deed, and attitude
- - Modeling the love of Christ in a positive way, both to the team as well as the families involved in the program, the Lancer community, and the community at large
- - Must be comfortable leading the team in group devotions and/or prayer at the beginning or end of each practice, at competitions, and other events
- - Attend and chaperone Spiritleader programs' trips as determined by the Spiritleader Advisor and Director of Student Activities
- - Notify the Head Coach and Spiritleader Advisor immediately of any participation or behavioral issues that conflict with the guidelines articulated in the Spiritleader Handbook while participating in or attending any Cheer-related activities
- Coaching
- - Foster an inclusive and supportive environment of growth for all participants in OLu's unique Sideline program design
- - Collaborate with the head coach to support the progressive development of skills, emphasizing proper technique, safety, and performance readiness.
- - Responsible for knowing CIF rules and the rules of each competition, as well as staying up to date on rule changes and ensuring Orange Lutheran complies with all rules
- - Use existing or new contacts to work with the Head Coach and Spiritleader Advisor to secure bids for appropriate external practice spaces for extra rehearsal time (if necessary)
- - Support program members as they strive to adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Orange Lutheran No Doubt Lifestyle Contract.
- School Spirit and Crowd Participation
- - Develop enthusiasm among the team for being Spiritleaders of the school through action and conduct
- - Develop new and innovative ways of encouraging the crowd to participate
- - Create a positive culture among team members during games
- - Train the members of the team to manage their game plan on their own with constant enthusiasm
- - Create a sense of passion for spirit leading among the members of the team that is displayed during athletic events
- - Work with the student section, Associated Student Body, coaches, and band director to achieve maximum positive crowd participation
- Competitions
- - Ensure the safety of the members of the team during practices and performances
- - Model professional and Christian behavior of the members of the team before, during, and after competitions taking place at or away from an Orange Lutheran High School event
- - Ensure that the dress of the members of the team is professional and in line with the Orange Lutheran Dress Guidelines before and after competitions.
- - Assist the Head Cheer Coach in providing a practice and competition schedule for Competition Cheer in the Fall each year
- - Monitor team safety at all venues of competition

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
- High School education required
Experience
- Experience as a cheer coach for 1-3 years or related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties listed
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND CLEARANCES
- Valid Fingerprint, CPR, TB, and First Aid Certifications
- Ministry Safe Clearance
- Valid California driver's license
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certificate
- NFHS Concussion in Sports Certificate
- NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Certificate
- NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certificate
- Current AACCA Certification within 1 month of hire date
- Current USA Cheer Membership

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The typical work environment is split between a climate-controlled high school gym, dance studio, and outdoors on the football field, with exposure to varying temperatures and climatic conditions
- The typical noise level is quiet to moderate, but may occasionally be loud
