POSITION TITLE: Assistant Cafe Manager
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Food Service/ Oregon Trail Middle School
HOURS OF WORK: 7.0 Hour Daily/167 Calendar Days Yearly, 7:00am - 2:30pm
STATUS: Classified – Non-Exempt, Full Time
HOURLY PAY: $18.00 middle school; $18.50 high school

This position is responsible for providing support to the food service activities at assigned location with specific responsibilities for organizing food preparation activities. Also responsible for assisting at other locations as needed. This position is expected to assist and oversee Food Service Staff with confirming quantities and quality of food, food preparation, serving items available for use, and keeping written reports to ensure compliance with mandated health requirements.
This position reports to the Food Services Cafe Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists scheduling assignments and work hours for Food Service Staff.
  • Climatizes newly hired employees to work center and school site processes.
  • Completes and documents transactions, processes receipts, and prepares bank deposits.
  • Evaluates prepared food for appearance, flavor, and temperature.
  • Implements menu plans meeting students mandated daily nutritional requirements.
  • Inspects and inventories orders confirming quality, quantity, and specifications of orders.
  • Maintains a sanitary food service environment complying with current health standards.
  • Assists in managing food service operations to health and follows mandated standards.
  • Monitors food service operations to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment.
  • Oversees cooking, preparation, serving, and transportation of food and beverage items.
  • Prepares documentation in the form of records, reports, sheets, and summaries.
  • Responds to inquiries from the community, staff, and students regarding food services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Restaurant or retail management experience preferred.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High degree of confidentiality, motivation, and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability in analyzing, compiling, and organizing data.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Highly collaborative team player.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the performance of medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The position requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing and significant finger dexterity. The position involves occasional crawling, crouching, grasping, kneeling, and stooping. This job is performed under temperature extremes and in some hazardous conditions.
