This position is hybrid reporting into the support center at Legacy West in Plano Texas.

About the role

Responsible for supporting the Buyer with the day to day management and development of business processes to maximize sales and gross margin objectives, while managing inventory objectives for specific brands. Develops strategic objectives to ensure long-term sustained growth.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Buyer with the assortment strategy for the assigned category. Supports the Buyer with to work collaboratively with vendor and brand partners to maximize first to market approach of on trend products, promotional and pricing strategy for the assigned category placement.
  • Supports the Buyer with partnering with pricing and promotional team to ensure optimal performance against sales and margin. Supports the Buyer with working collaboratively with the marketing and operations team to ensure a ‘customer first’ approach to the product strategy. Supports the Buyer to work collaboratively with the planning and allocation team to ensure ideal inventory levels. Supports the Buyer with presentation prep to all levels of leadership.
  • Contributes with analyzing and drawing conclusions from multiple resources so as to provide a concise, logical merchandising focus. Supports Buyer with identifying and promoting new products and trends in a timely manner to maximize sales potential. Identifies and devises profitable exit strategies, including vendor participation, of slow selling items, discontinued items, package changes and poor promotional sell through.
  • Supports Buyer with vendor partnerships and negotiations so as to reduce costs, increase margin, special terms, discounts, allowances and payment dating in all appropriate opportunities.
  • Contributes with developing category expertise through competitive analysis and supports Buyer by attending vendor meetings and tradeshow presentations to identify sales opportunities through new products, trends and competitive strategies.

Knowledge, skills & abilities requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 years purchasing or merchandising experience in related field. Category management experience in related field preferred. Consumer goods and services preferred
  • Proven track record of growing categories or leading category growth
  • Beauty experience a plus
  • JDA a plus
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills combined with high creative potential
  • Ability to multi task with accuracy
  • Leadership qualities and work ethics that dictate the standards for the department
  • Ability to communicate with and influence all levels of staff
  • Strong negotiation skills

Working conditions & physical requirements

Location: Hybrid | Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday at the Sally Beauty Support Center, Legacy West (Plano, TX)

The typical working environment is in the support center office, and the work is sedentary. Typically, the associate may sit comfortably to do the job. However, some tasks and activities may be walking, standing, bending, carrying light items such as papers, files, books, and small parts, driving an automobile to a store location, etc. These activities are not frequent and do not require significant physical demands to perform the work.

While involving everyday risks or discomforts, the work environment is designed with standard safety precautions. These precautions, typical of offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, residences, or commercial vehicles, include using safe work practices with office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, ensuring the safety and comfort of our associates.
