Assistant Business Manager (part-time 28 hours/week)

The Assistant Business Manager for BYU’s Neuroscience Center plays a uniquely impactful role at the intersection of science, education, and stewardship, helping power a dynamic, interdisciplinary program that serves hundreds of students and faculty across campus. What makes this position especially exciting is its breadth: from guiding financial strategy and supporting cutting-edge research resources to shaping course offerings and enhancing the student experience, this role is central to how the Center operates and grows. By ensuring thoughtful use of resources, smooth academic coordination, and strong collaboration among departments, the Assistant Business Manager directly advances BYU’s mission to foster learning, faith, and service—enabling students and faculty to pursue meaningful discovery in neuroscience while contributing to a well-functioning, values-driven academic community.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Manage the Neuroscience Center’s budget, financial reporting, spending controls, and compliance with university policies.
  • Oversee purchasing, procurement, payroll, and financial transactions for equipment, supplies, student wages, and other operational needs.
  • Coordinate undergraduate and graduate course scheduling to support effective instruction, classroom use, and student access.
  • Serve as the main liaison among the Center, faculty, affiliated departments, and the college to keep communication and operations running smoothly.
  • Support student employment, faculty/administrative logistics, and operational reporting, including hiring, onboarding, scholarships, events, and strategic data needs.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in business operations, financial administration, budgeting, accounting, office management, or academic administration.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial transactions, and administrative processes.
  • Experience using business and financial management systems and software.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial management, payroll, purchasing, and administrative operations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and enterprise business systems.

Preferred

  • Experience in higher education, academic administration, or research support environments.
  • Experience with budget development, financial forecasting, and fiscal reporting.
  • Experience coordinating academic schedules and supporting faculty and student programs.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience with Workday or similar ERP systems.
  • Experience managing student employment, payroll, and procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of higher education administrative, financial, and academic operations.
  • Ability to improve processes and operational efficiency.

Pay Grade: 51

Typical Starting Pay:$28.25 to$36.25 an hour
