The assistant coach must demonstrate Delta College Athletics’ five (5) key values: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership on a daily basis.
The Assistant Baseball Coach – Hitting is responsible for assisting the Head Baseball Coach in developing and implementing the offensive philosophy of the baseball program while promoting the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes. The assistant coach will provide instruction in hitting and defensive fundamentals, assist with recruiting, game preparation, player development, and other duties that contribute to a successful intercollegiate baseball program. The assistant coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Delta College, the Michigan Community College Athletic Association ( MCCAA), and the National Junior College Athletic Association ( NJCAA).

- Remain in compliance with the philosophy, mission, and guiding principles of Delta College.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of and uphold all athletic rules, regulations, policies, and procedures established by Delta College, the MCCAA, and the NJCAA
- Support Athletic Department initiatives, strategic goals, policies, and decisions.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes while representing the College with professionalism and integrity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING
- Assist the Head Baseball Coach in the development and implementation of the team’s offensive philosophy.
- Plan and conduct daily offensive instruction, including individual and team hitting drills.
- Assist in planning and organizing position player practice plans and defensive instruction for infielders or outfielders.
- Provide individualized instruction on swing mechanics, offensive approach, timing, pitch recognition, and mental performance.
- Utilize video analysis, performance technology, and available analytics to evaluate hitters and improve offensive performance.
- Develop and monitor individualized player development plans for position players.
- Lead infield or outfield defensive instruction as assigned.
- Throw batting practice and hit fungos during practices and pregame preparation.
- Assist with in-game coaching responsibilities, including coaching first or third base and supporting offensive and defensive decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of opponent scouting reports.
- Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting academically prepared student athletes while maintaining compliance with Delta College, MCCAA, and NJCAA recruiting regulations.
- Conduct campus tours and serve as a representative of the baseball program during the recruiting process.
- Support fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities in collaboration with the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
- Assist with oversight and communication regarding the team’s strength and conditioning program.
- Work collaboratively with the Athletic Trainer and Head Coach regarding player health, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and the College’s Emergency Action Plan.
- Attend all scheduled practices, competitions, meetings, recruiting events, and other program functions as assigned.
- Travel with the team to competitions and recruiting events.
- Assist in maintaining equipment inventory and ensuring a safe, organized, and positive practice and competition environment.
- Promote the baseball program and Delta College in a professional manner while fostering positive relationships with alumni, high school coaches, community members, and media.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Baseball Coach or Athletic Director.
Complete an on-line application and attach a cover letter with position title, resume, three current names of professional references, two letters of recommendation and copies of transcripts (official transcripts required upon hire) and/or certifications and licenses.
- Playing and/or coaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of offensive skill development, hitting instruction, and player development.
- Knowledge of NJCAA and MCCAA rules and regulations or the ability to learn and apply them.

CPR and First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, mornings, and travel as required.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
