Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly-motivated attorney who is passionate about public service to join her office as an Assistant Attorney General in the Privacy and Responsible Technology Division (PRTD). The Division, which is part of the Attorney General’s Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau, investigates and litigates consumer protection issues involving social media, artificial intelligence, data security and privacy, and other manipulative or unfair uses of technology.

Primary DutiesThe successful applicant will join a team in pursuing major litigation involving social media platforms and children. They will also investigate and litigate matters concerning data security, data privacy, emerging technology, and online or digital abuses.PRTD AAsG handle all aspects of the investigation and litigation process.Independently or as part of a team, they: identify key issues for investigation; engage in discovery, depositions, and motion practice; collaborate with other state and federal enforcement entities; and negotiate resolutions that serve the public interest.There may also be opportunities to assist in educational and policy work to protect privacy and security interests and to prevent the unfair and deceptive use of technology.

Position TypeFull-Time/Exempt Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.

Salary$87,500-$130,595, commensurate with JD year.

Position Requirements

·Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar or eligible for admission in short order.

·At least three (3) years (which may include judicial clerkships) of complex litigation experience is preferred.

·Clear and persuasive written and oral communication skills and legal research capabilities.

·Effective organizational skills, time management abilities, and attention to detail.

·Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate on differing matters with teams whose members have various experience levels and skill sets.

·Sound and thoughtful judgment and decision-making skills.

·Familiarity with Massachusetts consumer protection laws and data security laws, and/or state or federal privacy laws is a plus, but is not required.

The applicant should have a strong interest in the areas addressed by PRTD, but legal or technical experience in such subject matter areas is not required. The successful candidate will be able to learn complex ideas and concepts and effectively explain them to a court, jury, or the public. Applicants must be Massachusetts Bar eligible at the time of application and must apply for admission before their start date.
