Assistant Professor of Research
40% Sponsored Research: Conduct innovative research in data-driven modeling, communications, networking, machine learning, distributed optimization, and intelligent autonomous systems for distributed maritime operations involving both surface and underwater autonomous vehicles. Design and develop mathematical models, algorithms, engineering simulations, software tools, experiments, and testing methodologies for distributed multi-agent systems, resilient communications, intelligent sensing, autonomous decision-making, and cooperative autonomous operations. Manage, oversee, and design engineering simulations, experiments, and tests, and collect and analyze data while ensuring data integrity, quality control, and research reproducibility. Maintain currency with relevant state-of-the-art technologies, equipment, systems, communications and networking methods, and machine learning techniques. Publish research findings in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Work under the general direction of senior investigators while demonstrating increasing independence in research design and execution.

35% Supervise Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Researchers: Provide research supervision and technical mentoring to graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, research associates, and other research personnel. Guide research planning, technical development, experimental and simulation activities, publication preparation, sponsor deliverables, and professional development while fostering a collaborative and inclusive research environment. Provide day-to-day technical guidance to students and postdoctoral researchers in coordination with project principal investigators.

25% Research Program Development and External Funding: Identify funding opportunities and participate in developing competitive research proposals for federal agencies, industry, and other sponsors. Initiate and develop contacts and collaborations with grant and contract agencies, faculty members, industry partners, and other academic institutions to support the growth of externally funded research programs. Contribute to proposal preparation, technical planning, budgeting, project reporting, sponsor communications, and the preparation of technical reports and other research-related documentation. Contribute technical ideas, preliminary results, and written materials to collaborative proposal development.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline.

Specific Experience:

  • Demonstrated research accomplishments through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Evidence of the ability and potential to conduct high-quality independent and collaborative research.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline.

Specific Experience:

  • Postdoctoral or industrial research experience.
  • Experience participating in federally sponsored research.
  • Experience mentoring graduate or undergraduate researchers.

Associate Professor of Research

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline with 5 years of post Ph.D. research experience.

Specific Experience:

  • Strong and sustained record of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating research excellence.
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining or making significant contributions to externally funded research.
  • Experience supervising graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, or research personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline with 5 years of post Ph.D. research experience.

Specific Experience:

  • Experience serving as Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, or key personnel on externally funded research.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary research projects.
  • Established national reputation in one or more relevant research areas.

The Division of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Louisiana State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Research position. The successful candidate will conduct innovative sponsored research in data-driven modeling, communications, networking, artificial intelligence, machine learning, intelligent autonomous systems, and distributed maritime operations involving both surface and underwater autonomous vehicles.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative interdisciplinary research team consisting of faculty, research scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students from Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics. The team conducts cutting-edge research, supported by federal agencies and industry partners, in distributed multi-agent systems, autonomous maritime operations, communications, networking, machine learning, and intelligent autonomous systems. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, contribute to large multidisciplinary research projects, and help develop innovative technologies with real-world applications.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the growth of externally funded research programs through high-quality research, scholarly publications, mentoring of graduate students and postdocs, and the development of competitive research proposals.
