About the Team

When you join the Finance team, you’ll be joining the cornerstone of our operations, providing crucial guidance and governance to support ARTC's strategic objectives. The team is actively engaged in internal planning to enhance our strategic planning, risk management, and decision-making processes.

About the Opportunity

The
Assistant Accountant will provide support to the Finance Business Partnering
team with the preparation and production of accurate management reporting
including the centralised accounting processes such as internal plant charging,
project reporting, motor vehicle costs, prepayments, reconciliations and
capitalisation preparation along with other supporting journals and report
production. The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in processing
transactions, assisting with month end reporting and supporting broader
financial analysis and projects as required.

  • Preparing and processing accurate general ledger journals, including plant allocations, labour allocations,motor vehicles costings, prepayments, accruals and revenue postings.
  • Complete and maintain balance sheet workpaper reconciliations. Investigating discrepancies and resolving, including provisions, stockpiled ballast and grinding stone inventory.
  • Performing analytical reviews to support management reporting and providing meaningful commentary on financial results.
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly business reports.
  • Supporting government funding reporting requirements.
  • Reviewing and preparing asset capitalisations, cost adjustments, asset disposals, including identifying potential write-offs.
  • Assisting with the review and updating of work instructions and procedures to support internal controls and compliance.
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives, projects and other finance activities as required.
  • Building effective relationships and communicating with stakeholders across Finance and the broader business.
  • Ensuring compliance with ARTC's Safety Management System (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS).

What do we want from you?

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and negotiate with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in month-end accounting and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ideally gained within a commercial organisation or similar environment.
  • Experience using accounting software or ERP systems, with the ability to learn and adapt to new systems and processes.
