Wunan is seeking an Assistant Accountantto work from its Head Office based in Kununurra.

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Accountant to join our finance team based in Kununurra, WA. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their accounting career in a supportive and dynamic environment. You will assist with day-to-day financial operations and contribute to the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.

Key Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports
  • Perform bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations
  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions
  • Support payroll processing and related reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Prepare and lodge BAS/IAS (if applicable)
  • Support audit processes and respond to auditor queries
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies
  • Provide general administrative support to the finance team

Requirements of the Role

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–3 years’ experience in a similar accounting or finance role
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, XERO or Reckon)
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive attitude

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Working towards CPA or CA qualification
  • Experience in managing the books of a resort or hotel
  • Knowledge of Australian tax regulations and compliance
