Operations is a dynamic, multi-faceted division that partners with all areas of the firm to deliver banking, sales and trading and asset management capabilities to clients around the world. In addition, Operations provides essential risk management and control, preserving and enhancing the firm’s assets and its reputation. Operations span all product lines and markets, serving as internal business partners who develop the processes and controls, and help to specify the systems that deliver accuracy, timeliness and integrity to our business. Derivatives Operations is responsible for ensuring efficient and accurate transaction processing across a broad range of products. Generally, the products supported are complex instruments that require close alignment with the business. A key focus for the organization is establishing strong risk management procedures and controls to ensure the firm and our clients are properly protected. Derivatives Operations is at the forefront of shaping and driving change in the industry with the ultimate aim of delivering greater accuracy, control and efficiency for our clients and our business

Benchmark Analysis group acts as a central point that provides benchmark solutions and expertise across the investment management organization globally. In addition the group manages the data warehouse of benchmarks in internal systems that GSAM use for their index data requirements.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Track benchmark requirements of new funds, institutional accounts, PWM accounts, etc by liaising with Portfolio Management, Client Relationship Management & Product Development teams.
  • Liaise with Portfolio Managers on new indices that need to be either sourced from an external index provider or constructed internally.
  • Liaise with external index providers to be up to date on index industry developments, analyze its impact and provide regular updates to stake holders.
  • Extensively test index data in internal systems versus external index platforms prior to implementing new indices.
  • Liaise with Market Data as well as Legal teams to validate benchmark specifications in contracts for new indices with index providers.
  • Set up benchmarks in internal systems to enable flow of index data for portfolio management, trading, performance management, compliance, client reporting, etc.
  • Apply systemic or manual checks to ensure correctness of benchmark data to PM/downstream systems
  • Act as a benchmark consultant i.e. understands benchmark requirements from GSAM Portfolio Managers and advise Engineering Teams on benchmark implementation in systems.
  • Support benchmark related queries/ projects and carries out in-depth index analysis for Portfolio Managers, Traders, Controllers, Compliance, Legal, etc globally.
  • Calculation of benchmarks manually to validate the accuracy of custom benchmarks

Experience/ Skills

  • Strong quantitative and MS Excel skills with analytical mindset
  • Experience in the Financial Services industry, including Equities, Fixed Income or Operations
  • Good written and verbal communications skills with strong orientation on client service
  • Strong work ethic and attitude; quick learner and a team player
  • Experience of working effectively across business, operations, technology, legal and compliance team
  • Outstanding leadership, interpersonal, presentation and communications skills.
  • Highly organized, attention to detail and excellent follow through skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to influence others and drive consensus toward a common goal or vision.
  • CA/ CFA/ MBA will be an added advantage
  • Asset Management background is desirable but not mandatory
  • 4 – 7 years of industry experience in the field of Indices, financial products, performance or other related analysis
