We’re looking for an Asset Technician to join our WTA/FH team in WellingtonThe Wellington Transport Alliance (WTA) is a partnership between Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Fulton Hogan and WSP. The WTA is responsible for managing the maintenance and operations programme for the state highways and roading networks of the Greater Wellington Region, and for delivering high service standards to the people and roading network of the region

Mō te tūranga | About the role

The Asset Technician is responsible for providing technical support to the Asset Management team through conduction inspections, validating asset information, and assessing the impact of land use developments on the state highway network to ensure optimal asset performance and compliance.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Conduct network inspections to identify faults and validate asset information for accurate asset management decision making
  • Manage traffic count contracts including planning, implementation, and data validation to support network analysis and planning
  • Undertake site inspections for Land Use Development applications and complete final defect inspections for third-party minor applications to ensure compliance with standards
  • Perform condition assessments for drainage, roadside furniture, and other assets to inform the development of maintenance and renewal programmes
  • Asses the impact of land use developments on the state highway network and provide technical recommendations to protect the network integrity
  • Support Asset Management and Structures Engineers in the delivery of their programmes through technical input and field verification
  • Assist with the resolution of Customer Relationships Management Systems (CRMS) enquires by providing technical assessments and recommendations

  • Demonstrated understanding of road asset management principles and practices
  • Experience in conducting field inspections and condition assessments of transport infrastructure
  • Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Knowledge of land use development processes and their potential impacts on transport networks
  • Experience using asset management systems and databases to record and analyse asset information
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess technical information and make sound recommendations
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
  • Experience in managing stakeholder relationships and coordinating with contractors
  • NZ Diploma in Engineering (Civil) – preferred or
  • NZ Certificate in Engineering (Civil) or equivalent qualification
  • Traffic Management qualification (minimum TC level 1)
  • A current and valid full NZ Driver's License
