Description

The Asset Manager is responsible for the effective management, control and availability of all Container assets across the business, including Wheeled bins, Skips and Roro Containers. The role ensures Container stock levels are maintained, assets are accurately tracked, repairs are completed to the required standard, and customer service requirements are met through the efficient deployment, recovery and replacement of Containers in line with agreed Capex limits.

The role will oversee Container audits, stock control, repair programmes, supplier management, ordering and procurement activity, while driving cost control, operational efficiency and asset utilisation across the operation.

Key Responsibilities

Asset Management

  • Maintain full visibility and control of Wheeled bins, Skips and Roro Container assets.
  • Manage inventory levels, asset availability and utilisation across depot and customer locations.
  • Maintain an accurate container asset register and investigate missing, lost or underutilised assets.
  • Manage depot stock levels, storage areas, stock counts and reconciliation activity.
  • Develop and complete a structured Container audit programme across depots and customer sites.
  • Update asset records following audits, deployments, exchanges, recoveries and removals.
  • Oversee Container repair activity to maximise safe and serviceable asset availability.
  • Prioritise repairs based on safety, customer need, asset value and operational demand. Liaise with internal teams, workshops and external repair providers to manage quality, turnaround time and cost.
  • Ordering requirements for new and replacement containers and associated equipment.
  • Raise purchase orders in line with company procedures and budget controls.
  • Monitor supplier performance, delivery lead times, pricing and product quality.
  • Work closely with transport, planning, sales and customer service teams to ensure container availability.
  • Support deployment, exchanges, collections, recoveries and customer service amendments.
  • Produce KPI reporting on stock accuracy, asset availability, repairs, losses, audit completion and spend.

Compliance and Health & Safety

  • Ensure Containers are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition and unsafe units are removed from service promptly.
  • Promote safe housekeeping, storage and manual handling standards within container areas.
  • Support investigations relating to container damage, loss, incidents or customer complaints.

This is not an exhaustive list. You may also be required to carry out any other duties as required by the business that you are qualified/trained in that meet the requirements of this role.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Confident managing suppliers, ordering processes and repair activity.
  • Organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive, accountable and solutions focused.
  • Experience within waste management, logistics, transport
  • Ability to work in operational depot environments and support safe housekeeping standards.

Desired:

  • Use of Microsoft, understanding of procurement, ordering and bookings.
  • Experience using asset management, transport, weighbridge, CRM or operational systems.
  • Knowledge of waste industry container types, specifications and service requirements.
