Auckland Council's Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience (HWFR) department is seeking an Asset Information Management and Data Standards Intern to join our Asset Management Centre of Excellence (AMCoE).

The Asset Management Centre of Excellence supports the management, governance, and continuous improvement of asset information that enables Auckland Council to plan, operate, maintain, and invest in critical infrastructure. High-quality asset information is essential for informed decision-making, service delivery, risk management, and long-term infrastructure planning.

As an intern, you will gain practical experience working alongside asset managers, information managers, GIS specialists, engineers, and analysts while contributing to initiatives that improve the quality and consistency of infrastructure data.

What you’ll be doing during your internship

During your 12-week internship your work may include:

• Supporting the development and maintenance of asset data standards and business rules
• Reviewing asset information and identifying opportunities to improve data quality and consistency
• Assisting with asset information governance and data management initiatives
• Supporting the documentation of asset information requirements, processes, and standards
• Analysing asset data and contributing to reporting on data quality performance
• Working with spatial and asset information systems to support infrastructure information management
• Assisting with projects that improve the management and accessibility of asset information across Auckland Council

This role provides valuable exposure to infrastructure asset management, asset information management, data governance, and industry best practices used to manage large public infrastructure portfolios.

You are curious, analytical, and interested in how information supports better infrastructure and environmental outcomes.

You enjoy working with data, solving problems, and collaborating with a diverse range of people. You are keen to learn about asset information management and how high-quality data supports decision-making across large infrastructure organisations.

Eligibility

• Be in your second-to-last year of a relevant bachelor’s degree, or continuing into a master’s degree programme.
• Be eligible to work in New Zealand full-time from 23 November 2026 – 19 February 2027
• A minimum of a New Zealand Restricted Driver’s License is preferred
