Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for an Asset Engineer to join our Transportation team and help plan the work that keeps Tauranga’s roads safe, reliable, and performing well.

In this role, you’ll use asset information, condition assessments and your practical knowledge of road maintenance to help develop maintenance and renewal programmes. You’ll review data, assess the network on site, and make sure our work programmes are based on accurate information and deliver the right outcomes for the city.

You’ll also provide technical advice, support the management of road construction and maintenance contracts, and help allocate budgets across planned work. It’s a varied role where you can combine technical thinking with practical problem-solving and see how your work directly supports Tauranga’s transport network.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for:

• developing and optimising road maintenance and renewal programmes
• reviewing asset information and completing network condition assessments
• validating maintenance and renewal options through site assessments
• using asset management systems AWM and data to support sound decisions
• providing practical technical advice on road assets and maintenance
• supporting contract management for road construction and maintenance activities
• helping manage and allocate budgets across planned work
• working with colleagues and contractors to deliver positive asset outcomes.

Ngā Pūkenga | What you’ll need to succeed

We’re keen to hear from someone who understands road assets and enjoys turning technical information into practical, well-planned work programmes.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

• a degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• around five years’ experience in road asset management, road maintenance, or a related transportation role
• strong knowledge of the roading industry
• confidence using asset management systems and databases, such as RAMM and AWM
• experience developing and optimising forward work programmes
• good analytical and problem-solving skills
• clear communication skills and the ability to work well with a range of people
• an organised, practical approach with good attention to detail.
