We are currently looking for an Asset Engineer - Mechanical for Doha, Qatar.

Mission:

Reporting to the Asset Manager, the Asset Engineer – Mechanical is responsible for the technical asset management, condition, reliability, availability, and lifecycle optimization of mechanical assets across wastewater treatment plants and associated O&M facilities. The role focuses on mechanical asset reliability, condition assessment, maintenance optimization, failure analysis, lifecycle planning, asset renewal and performance improvement.

Responsibilities

Asset Management & Lifecycle

  • Develop and implement mechanical asset management plans in line with the overall asset management strategy.
  • Manage the lifecycle of mechanical assets from acquisition, installation and commissioning through operation, maintenance, refurbishment, replacement and disposal.
  • Maintain accurate mechanical asset registers covering identification, location, condition, criticality, maintenance history, performance and lifecycle information.
  • Assess asset health, remaining useful life, criticality and replacement/renewal requirements.
  • Conduct Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality (FMECA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) studies.

Mechanical Reliability & Maintenance

  • Monitor pumps, blowers, compressors, gearboxes, mixers, agitators, centrifuges, screens, conveyors, valves, actuators, lifting equipment and other mechanical assets of Sewage Treatment Plants, Packaged Treatment Plants and Pumping Stations.
  • Develop and review preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance strategies for critical mechanical assets.
  • Analyze breakdowns, downtime, vibration data, lubrication records, alignment/balancing results and maintenance history to identify recurring failures.
  • Support condition monitoring including vibration analysis, oil analysis, lubrication monitoring, alignment, balancing and other predictive techniques where applicable.

Failure, Risk & Performance

  • Lead or support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major mechanical equipment failures and monitor corrective actions.
  • Monitor availability, reliability, failure frequency, downtime, MTBF, MTTR and maintenance cost.
  • Identify deteriorated, obsolete, inefficient, underperforming or high-risk assets and recommend refurbishment, replacement or renewal.
  • Assess OEM support, spare parts availability, maintainability and lifecycle risks and develop mitigation plans.

Projects, Procurement & Technical Support

  • Review equipment specifications, datasheets, drawings, technical submissions and vendor documentation.
  • Provide technical input for procurement, refurbishment, replacement, upgrading and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
  • Review critical mechanical spare parts requirements and recommend strategic/insurance spares.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and specialist service providers.

Asset Data, Reporting & Improvement

  • Ensure mechanical asset information, maintenance history, condition data and technical documentation are accurately maintained in the CMMS, ERP or Asset Management System.
  • Support lifecycle cost and Total Cost of Ownership assessments and develop replacement/renewal forecasts.
  • Prepare reports covering asset condition, reliability, failures, risks, maintenance requirements, replacement priorities and lifecycle costs.
  • Promote continuous improvement in mechanical reliability, maintenance strategies, energy efficiency and lifecycle performance.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Typically 5–8 years of relevant experience in mechanical asset management, maintenance, reliability or engineering.
  • Experience in wastewater treatment, water utilities, process plants, industrial facilities or O&M is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pumps, blowers, rotating equipment, mechanical treatment equipment, valves and maintenance strategies.
  • Experience with condition monitoring, reliability improvement and CMMS/ERP/Asset Management Systems.
  • Strong analytical, technical reporting and problem-solving skills; fluent English.

  • Reliability engineering, preventive/predictive maintenance and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Asset data management, CMMS/ERP and technical reporting.
