Job Description

Overview

The Asset Change & Configuration Management professional is responsible for governing and continuously improving IT asset, change, and configuration management practices to ensure accurate inventory, controlled change, and reliable configuration data across the technology environment. This role maintains the integrity of asset and configuration records (e.g., CMDB/CMS), supports impact analysis for changes, drives audit readiness, and partners with IT operations, and service delivery teams to reduce risk and improve service reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Own and administer service asset and configuration management practices, including definition of CI classes, naming standards, required attributes, and relationship modeling within the CMDB/CMS.
  • Plan, administer and manage software and hardware asset inventory to include managing inventory activities
  • Maintain accurate software license and business agreement records according to lifecycle governance
  • Maintain accurate asset and CI lifecycle records (procurement/onboarding, changes, transfers, retirement/disposal) and ensure data quality through governance controls, validations, and periodic reviews.
  • Perform and manage Change Management process from beginning to end to include CAB/CCB meetings
  • Ensure changes are assessed for impact, properly authorized, implemented, and reflected in the CMDB and asset records (including baselines and change history).
  • Coordinate discovery and integrations (e.g., endpoint, server, network, cloud, and application data sources) and reconcile data to improve completeness and reduce duplication.
  • Define, schedule, and lead configuration verification and audit activities; track findings, drive corrective actions, and produce evidence for internal/external audits.
  • Develop and publish process documentation, work instructions, and training; coach CI owners and support teams on standards and operating procedures.
  • Provide operational support for CMDB/asset tooling (requests, access, data corrections, quality remediation backlogs) and participate in governance boards (e.g., CAB/CCB) as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Active Secret Clearance or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in IT Service Management, Configuration Management, Asset Management, Change Management, or IT Operations in a medium-to-large enterprise environment.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL practices (especially IT Asset Management, Service Configuration Management, and Change Management).
  • A foundational understanding of enterprise IT environments, including servers, networks, databases, storage, cloud (AWS/Azure), and software components.
  • Experience maintaining a CMDB/CMS data model, including CI classes, attributes, relationships, and data quality rules.
  • Experience in planning and administering physical asset inventory events
  • Ability to perform impact analysis and communicate technical risk to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills (e.g., running reviews, audits, governance discussions).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ITIL 4 Foundation (or higher) certification.
  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow or comparable ITSM platforms such as Jira Service Management/Assets, Ivanti, or BMC Helix/Remedy.
  • Experience supporting software asset management and license compliance activities.
  • Understanding of security configuration management concepts and common controls (e.g., secure baselines, drift detection, audit evidence).
  • Experience in regulated environments (e.g., SOX, HIPAA, PCI, ISO 27001/20000) and working with auditors.
