Job Description

BESS Asset Analyst | Full-time – Part time | Amsterdam (HQ) - Hybrid

About Return

Return is the leading European independent energy storage provider, committed to revolutionizing the energy sector. Return has offices in Amsterdam (HQ), Hamburg, Munich, Madrid and Brussels. Return offers innovative, sustainable solutions to store and intelligently manage energy, ensuring power is used efficiently when and where it’s needed most. With a growing presence across Europe, Return is at the forefront of the energy transition, integrating large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) to support grid stability, renewable energy integration, and Europe's net-zero goals. Driven by a team of experts, Return aims to provide reliable energy storage that powers the future of clean energy.

To support our continued growth, we are looking for an Amsterdam based Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Asset Analyst to join our asset service team. The team's goal is to provide our customers with reliable, predictable and efficient storage capacity. This means having our operational processes running smoothly and learning from our assets at the same time. Answering questions such as: what technology performs best for our use case? How can we run the batteries in the most efficient way? How can improve asset performance with a growing portfolio of assets?

Your Role
As Asset Analyst, you work on a variety of subjects, focussing on improving the performance, reliability, and financial returns of a portfolio of utility-scale battery energy storage systems through data-driven insights, technical monitoring, and commercial analysis.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze real-time BESS health metrics, including State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), round-trip efficiency, and degradation trends to ensure optimal operations.

  • Commercial Optimization: Collaborate with optimization & dispatch teams to analyze market signals and optimize battery cycling strategies for maximum performance and revenue.

  • O&M Optimization: Work with O&M (Operations & Maintenance) providers to identify performance shortfalls, track corrective actions, and minimize downtime.

  • Financial Analysis: Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for asset-level P&L and cash flow tracking.

  • Warranty & Compliance: Monitor system usage to ensure operations remain within warranty envelopes and contractual limits, and support the processing of warranty claims.

  • Process optimization: standardizing and optimizing internal and external processes, enabling our focus on quality control and effective and efficient management

  • Collaboration with our general tech team, working on data analysis, dashboard development and process optimization

  • Supporting the asset management department with variety of day-to-day business requests based on technical, performance or financial questions
