This position is responsible for general facility maintenance (cleaning, organizing, stocking); event setup and tear downs, and minor allowable repairs, and the storage and maintenance of equipment and materials used to prepare building facilities for events.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads and assists with event setups and facility conversions, including arranging furniture and equipment, setting stages, and installing the basketball floor. Follows approved diagrams and timelines, remains present throughout the event, and verify work for safety and accuracy. Heavy lifting may be required.
  • Performs and oversees routine facility cleaning, including floors, restrooms, windows, furniture, trash removal, and supply restocking. Completes walkthroughs, addresses cleanliness and safety concerns, and verifies assigned work. Complete opening and closing walkthroughs and verifies that assigned cleaning and setup work has been completed.
  • Maintains, organizes, inventories, and properly stores furniture, equipment, and materials used for events. Inspects items before and after use and reports damage, missing items, or needed repairs.
  • Maintains internal building security and protects University property, furniture, supplies, and equipment during the assigned shift. Continuously monitors assigned event and support areas, controls access to approved spaces, reports security concerns, and ensures appropriate coverage is maintained throughout the shift. This responsibility is separate from event security.
  • Ensures rooms, storage areas, and the facility are properly opened or secured as assigned. Maintains clear and professional communication through email, radio, and in-person updates. Regularly checks and acknowledges operational emails, follows the established chain of command, and keeps the Assistant Director and appropriate operational leadership informed of significant event changes, staffing concerns, safety issues, equipment damage, maintenance needs, unfinished work, and final resolutions. Completes required end-of-shift reporting before leaving.
  • Coordinates assigned subcontractors, trades, and event-related service providers under the direction of the Assistant Director. Confirms required personnel sign in and out, monitors work for compliance with UIC Venues & Events policies and procedures, collects and submits required documentation, and reports service, equipment, supply, or follow-up needs. Helps monitor facility inventory and communicates when furniture, equipment, cleaning supplies, or other operational materials require repair, replacement, or replenishment.
  • Enforces building security policies, safety procedures, equipment requirements, and facility regulations. Conducts safety briefings when assigned, maintains clear exit paths and safe work areas, ensures employees use only equipment for which they are trained and authorized, and addresses or escalates possible violations, injuries, hazards, and unsafe conditions through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Trains, supervises, directs, and motivates student employees. Assigns clear duties, priorities, and deadlines; confirms instructions are understood; remains physically present during setup and teardown; monitors work for quality, safety, and accuracy; and provides respectful coaching and follow-up. Coordinates staffing coverage and breaks, monitors attendance and work-hour requirements, verifies assigned work, documents attendance exceptions, and promptly reports employee, conduct, safety, or performance concerns through the appropriate process.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
