Responsible for safely supervising and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in asphalt paving/production. This role involves ensuring that operations run smoothly to produce high-quality paving and asphalt product. Additionally, the position requires assisting with operational tasks to maintain efficiency and quality standards.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)

  1. Perform equipment inspections, walk-arounds, and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions.
  2. Tour work site to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules and to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment.
  3. Communicate paving crew needs with dispatch and to the plant. Calculate number of trucks required to haul aggregate and/or asphalt according to capacity of vehicles, traffic conditions, distance from work site and productivity of driver.
  4. Monitor material quality, inspect and troubleshoot materials to produce a high quality paving product, identifying and addressing issues.
  5. Coach and monitor team members to comply with OSHA and safety regulations and assist in training new employees.
  6. Manage and lead employees, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to ensure efficient operations and compliance with company policies.
  7. Accurately record and relay production, quality, equipment, and personnel information to the Operations Manager or other appropriate team members.
  8. Communicate effectively with project managers, site supervisors, inspectors, subcontractors, and other team members.
  9. Approve and submit work hours for personnel and relevant job information daily.
  10. Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety, and environmental regulations.
  11. Promote and enforce safe work practices, taking action to prevent unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (types and extent of knowledge, skills or abilities an incumbent must possess to complete the job responsibilities satisfactorily)

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Strong organizational skills.
  3. Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  4. Able to work independently and under time constraints.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)

  1. Minimum 7 years experience in product line
  2. Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
  3. Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturdays.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (preferred requirements i.e. certifications, software use, etc.)

  1. Over 2 years up to and including 4 years from post high school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment
