  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, alignment, sharpness, damage, and completeness.
  • Identify damaged or missing instruments and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate clinical leader.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization records, equipment logs, quality-control documentation, and instrument-tracking information.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling contaminated instruments, sharps, biohazardous materials, and regulated waste.
  • Maintain appropriate separation of decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and sterile-storage areas.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with stocking instruments, supplies, personal protective equipment, and sterile items.
  • Rotate supplies and verify package integrity and expiration dates.
  • Prepare instruments and equipment for scheduled ophthalmic surgical procedures.
  • Support efficient room turnover and communicate with the surgical team regarding instrument availability and priority needs.
  • Follow infection-prevention practices, OSHA requirements, facility policies, and manufacturers’ instructions for use.
  • Participate in competency assessments, continuing education, safety initiatives, quality-improvement activities, and regulatory surveys.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and survey-ready sterile processing environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the surgery center and patient-care team.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions, safety procedures, and manufacturers’ instructions for use.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional conduct.
