ASC Pre/Recovery/PACU Staff Nurse 50% to 100%-(26003113)

Sign-on Incentive: Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000.

This position is Monday through Friday, 8 or 10 hour shifts with extension of shift call. No weekends or holidays.

The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center ASC is seeking 50% to 100% Pre/Recovery/PACU Staff Nurses to assess patients’ nursing care needs, evaluate and provide Pre-Op and Post-Op care and teaching as appropriate to the patient and caregivers, integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Provide leadership to members of the nursing team in order to maintain patient care standards.

Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to:

  • Incorporate the scientific, behavioral, and humanistic principles into clinical practice.
  • Adhere to departmental standards, policies, and practice guidelines.
  • Apply nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses.
  • Analyze initial and ongoing assessment data to determine diagnosis and patient outcomes.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients and follow universal precautions.
  • Implement emergency care procedures when necessary.
  • Maintain skills/competency related to special equipment, medications, and procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the health care team utilizing effective communication skills.
  • Participate in the development of unit, department and hospital wide policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Review staffing issues and recommend cost containment strategies.
  • Serve as a member of various University Shared Governance committees, as directed.
  • Perform other projects or tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in the orientation of new nursing staff and their ongoing education and training.
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality and serve as a patient advocate.
  • Responsible for adherence to legal, professional, and institutional requirements.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of clinical skills in Pre-Op and Post-Op (PACU).
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Assist physicians as appropriate in procedures and care of patients.

The Perioperative ASC Pomerantz location includes a 35 Bed Pre and Post Op preparation and 12 bay PACU recovery unit for outpatient adult and pediatric patients scheduled for surgery.

Percent of Time: 50% to 100% openings

Schedule: Monday – Friday, scheduled between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., 8 or 10 hr. shifts plus extension of shift call. No weekends or holidays scheduled.

Salary: 100% is $57,587.00 to $105,636.00. Prorated for less than 100% Shift differentials are further detailed in the UI Health Care SNAHP manual.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Current license to practice nursing in State of Iowa is required by date of hire.
  • An Associate’s degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP, MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Current ACLS, PALS and BLS certification desired or completion within 6 months of employment is required.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Pre/post-op, surgical in-patient, or labor and delivery registered nurse experience or internship in ASC PACU is highly desired
  • EKG cardiac monitoring experience is desired
  • CAPA and/or CPAN certification desired
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or Masters degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
