Pre-Admit Testing Specialist (RN) – No Weekends, No On-Call!

Home Base: Utica, MI (11051 Hall Road, Suite 100)

Travel Required: Shared coverage with our Troy location (130 Town Center, Suite 130)

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday – Friday (No weekends, no on-call!)

Hours: ~40–42 hours per week (5x8-hour shifts). Shift windows vary by department needs between 6:30 AM/7:30 AM starts and 4:30 PM/5:00 PM finishes.

What You’ll Do (The Vital Details):

As our PAT Specialist, you are the gatekeeper of patient safety and the expert who sets every surgery up for success:

  • The Warm Welcome & Assessment: Handle critical clinical intake, perform initial physical assessments, and complete comprehensive patient interviews to map out medical histories.
  • The Clinical Prep: Step up to perform essential ordered testing, including running EKGs and drawing blood for lab work.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The ASC Pre-Admit Testing Specialist, RN is responsible for overseeing intake, performing an initial physical assessment, interviewing the patient to obtain medical history, and performing tests ordered by the surgeon such as EKG and drawing blood for lab work. The Pre-Admit Testing Specialist works closely with the surgeon and anesthesia team to ensure the patient is ready for surgery.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Gathers pertinent patient information related to the scheduled case.
  • Arranges collected data into the appropriate patient record.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in the assessment of patients.
  • Responsible for contacting all patients scheduled for surgery to assess their biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural, and educational status.
  • Develops an individualized perioperative patient plan of care.
  • Serves as a liaison between physician offices and the surgical team.
  • Administers medications safely and correctly.
  • Assesses the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person. Provides education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
  • Actively involves the patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process, and discharge planning. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.
  • Protects the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Ensures that documentation is completed in a timely and thorough manner, which is able to be read and understood by clinical staff.
  • Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through excellence in customer service and performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • RN license and certification as required by state.
  • BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.
  • Certified Nurse Post-Anesthesia (CAPA) preferred.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 years' perioperative services experience preferred.
