About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AS400 (IBM i) System Engineer to join our Infrastructure Services team. The successful candidate will serve as the custodian of our core banking system environment, which encompasses IBM AS400 (IBM i), storage solutions, SAN switches, and encryption key management systems. This role demands a proactive professional with a strong technical background, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to maintaining system integrity and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and maintain the health of the core banking system environment, including IBM AS400 (IBM i), storage arrays, SAN switches, and encryption key managers.
  • Conduct regular system health checks on hardware and operating systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve software and hardware issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Enhance and optimize housekeeping jobs to accommodate new system objects and improve operational efficiency.
  • Perform system performance analysis and tuning; identify and fine-tune jobs or services to improve throughput.
  • Plan and execute patch management activities for critical IBM products such as IBM i (PTF), VIOS, Copy Services Manager, Connect:Direct, and Security Guardium Key Lifecycle Manager.
  • Manage operating system installations, restorations, and upgrades for IBM i environments.
  • Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to support future growth and scalability.
  • Manage IBM i system hardware resources via Hardware Management Console (HMC) or directly through the operating system.
  • Configure job/module environments to support new application project rollouts.
  • Execute BAU and project-related change requests from various teams and departments.
  • Coordinate and perform system role-swaps during scheduled disaster recovery exercises.
  • Perform backups and restores of files, objects, and libraries during urgent situations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to disaster recovery procedures, patch management, event monitoring, identity and system baseline reviews, leveraging AI technologies and automation tools.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, standards, and policies.
  • Support IBM BRMS (Backup, Recovery & Media Services) for IBM i, including backup/restore operations, media policy management, retention scheduling, inventory control, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ hands-on experience working with IBM i (AS400) systems.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with storage and SAN products.
  • Proven experience with Virtual Tape Library (VTL) technologies.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with IBM i PowerHA technology is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of IBM Storage solutions such as DS and FlashSystems is a plus.
  • Experience or knowledge of IBM i CL, SQL, programming, Ansible, or AI-based automation tools is advantageous.
  • Exposure to IBM Security Guardium Key Lifecycle Management, IBM WebSphere MQ, IBM ConnectDirect, or SR-IOV technologies is beneficial.
  • Prior experience in a banking or financial services environment is an added advantage.
