20The Arts & Design Studio Technician performs routine installation of exhibits in the Visual Arts Gallery and other exhibit spaces on campus. Manages inventory for the instructional studios and performs routine maintenance of studio equipment. The Arts & Design Studio Technician does not supervise others.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contributes to ongoing special projects related to the gallery, Art on Campus, and studios.

  • Maintains props and builds additional props and pedestals.

  • Manages set up, clean up, and inventory for the instructional studios.

  • Prepares raw supports and bulk materials for courses.

  • Is responsible for setting up and closing events.

  • Prepares the gallery and assists faculty/staff with installation of exhibits.

  • Repairs studio furniture, easels and related equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of gallery preparation standards, artwork handling, and safe installation practices.

  • Knowledge of studio materials, raw supports, bulk supplies, and basic equipment construction.

  • Knowledge of common repair methods, tool use, and maintenance procedures for studio furniture and equipment.

  • Skills in installing and positioning artwork, displays, props, and pedestals with precision.

  • Skills in preparing raw supports and bulk materials accurately and efficiently.

  • Skills in diagnosing minor equipment issues and performing light repairs.

  • Ability to interpret installation plans and execute layouts accurately.

  • Ability to build durable props and pedestals that meet instructional and display needs.

  • Ability to shift between gallery, studio, and special project tasks as needs arise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/Equivalent

  • One (1) year of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • General experience in an art gallery/art setting/classroom.

Schedule Designation:

  • This is a part-time position working no more than 20 hours per week.

  • Required to work onsite in Santa Fe, NM.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work on a ladder

  • Ability to operate power tools and hand tools related to woodworking, including table saws, chop saws, etc.
