Chapman University’s renowned Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, located in the heart of vibrant Orange County, California, seeks dynamic and passionate candidates for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position in Public Relations, Advertising, and Entertainment Marketing (PRAEM). This position begins August 1, 2027.

The PRAEM Program at Dodge College of Film and Media Arts - The award-winning Public Relations, Advertising, and Entertainment Marketing program offers students a robust curriculum focused on storytelling. The curriculum combines theory with applied industry-focused learning, strategy, research, creativity, campaign development, digital and social media, and presenting. AI and emerging technologies and the rapidly evolving ways organizations and brands engage audiences are also considerations. Students develop an understanding of the opportunities, limitations, ethical considerations and responsible application of AI and emerging technologies within contemporary communications. With over 250 undergraduate majors and an additional 200+ students minoring in Public Relations or Advertising, the program provides a dynamic and growing academic community. Students gain hands-on experience in industry practices, preparing them for successful careers in entertainment marketing, public relations, advertising, digital marketing and related fields.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses with a focus on Advertising, with the ability to teach additional courses within Public Relations and Entertainment Marketing based on program needs and the candidate’s expertise.
  • Carry a 24-credit annual teaching load, typically structured as a 4/4 teaching schedule, with four courses taught each semester.
  • Teach introductory and advanced courses that integrate theoretical foundations with strategic, applied, and current industry practices.
  • Incorporate appropriate applications of AI and emerging technologies into coursework while developing students’ ability to critically evaluate their use, limitations, ethics, and impact on the profession.
  • Mentor and advise students in the PRAEM program and support their academic and professional development.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and the continued evolution of the PRAEM program and its curriculum.
  • Participate in service to the college and university, including committee work, student initiatives, recruitment, and outreach activities.
  • Maintain currency in professional practice relevant to advertising, public relations, marketing, or entertainment media.
  • Incorporate global and cross-cultural perspectives into teaching, case studies, campaigns, and student work.

Qualifications

Required:

  • An advanced degree (master’s or Ph.D.) in Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Film, or a related field, OR substantial professional experience and demonstrated expertise relevant to the position.
  • Experience in teaching, either at the university level or in the industry.
  • Experience in several relevant areas, such as advertising strategy, campaign development, creative strategy, consumer/audience research, digital and social media, presenting and pitching, and campaign measurement.

Preferred:

  • Ability to translate professional or academic expertise into applied, real-world classroom learning.
  • Experience working with global brands, international markets, multicultural audiences, or cross-cultural campaigns.
  • Ability to teach primarily in Advertising while contributing to Public Relations and Entertainment Marketing courses based on program needs.
  • A demonstrated commitment to both teaching excellence and continued professional development in the field of public relations, advertising, or entertainment marketing.

Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. This position is contingent on final budget approval.
