Purpose of Job

To support production by providing effective equipment maintenance and reliability while adhering to procedures/codes, and utilizing all available support resources to increase stability and maintain sustainability of the plant and/or equipment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Do daily plant preventative inspection
  • Planning own tasks
  • Do preventative and repairs on plant equipment according to safety regulations, instruction and quality procedures.
  • Conduct fault finding on mechanical equipment
  • Initiate pro-actives in maintenance
  • Must be able to do standby
  • Willing to work overtime
  • Able to work independently
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate
  • Conduct fault finding
  • Identify trends and initiate solutions for specific equipment failures
  • Be able to do preventative repairs on plant equipment
  • Be able to execute tasks, with minimal supervision
  • Team player: - able to function in a large group of artisans, or a diverse group of disciplines
  • Be able to work under pressure

Formal Education

  • Grade 12/ N3 with Maths, Science and English
  • NQF level 4 Mechanical Fitter or equivalent qualification ex QCTO certificate
  • Trade Certificate a must

Work Experience

  • At least 2 year’s maintenance mechanical experience as a qualified Fitter/Learner Artisan Mechanical
  • Reading and understanding work management process
  • Experience in variety of mechanical equipment, pumps, compressors, drives, mechanical seals, gearboxes, heat exchangers, cooling towers, vessels and piping.
  • Bucket elevators, Conveyor belts, Vibrating screens, and Rotating drums

Additional requirements

  • Be able to work at heights, dirty and noisy areas
  • Actively participate in discussions that improve maintenance, quality and safety
  • Must be physically fit
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures
  • Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license
