Are you someone who can:

  • Identify, control, and escalate potential risks that may lead to increased costs by reducing consumption (water or electricity) and minimizing failures on essential equipment.
  • Manage costs and expenses within the approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies.
  • Estimate the cost of labour and materials for work orders and obtain competitive prices for equipment and supplies.
  • Respond proactively and accurately to client and technical queries within agreed turnaround times, ensuring high-quality responses.
  • Be available for 24-hour standby for emergencies.
  • Handle internal and external clients with tolerance, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting, inspection, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment on premises.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and replace circuits, coordinate emergency repairs and large, complex projects.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders for execution and guidance to others.
  • Provide efficient administration through timely planning, reporting, and updating of all related information.
  • Install new HVAC equipment and systems in line with building projects or renovations.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards, SANS building codes, and energy efficiency regulations.
  • Collaborate with other artisans (electricians, plumbers, carpenters) to support integrated facilities management.
  • Assist in developing preventative maintenance schedules to reduce recurring faults.
  • Manage tools, equipment, and materials responsibly to control costs.

You will be an ideal candidate if you have:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognized Trade Test Certificate in HVAC/Refrigeration (Artisan qualification).
  • Vocational certification: trade qualification plus Trade Test pass (e.g., HVAC certification).
  • Apprenticeship background as per job title
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ post-qualification experience in HVAC maintenance and installations, preferably in commercial or corporate environments.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, and ventilation layouts.
  • Skilled use of hand and power tools, along with digital control systems
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), energy-efficient solutions, and chilled water systems (advantageous).
  • Ability to operate CMMS systems and basic business software (MS Office).
  • Valid vehicle license, beneficial for standby.
  • Valid driver’s license (advantageous for site mobility).

  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Good communication skills for liaising with facilities managers and contractors.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Time management and ability to prioritize urgent tasks.
  • Safety-conscious mindset with adherence to OHS standards.
