
The Operational Excellence department supports ASML’s factories with improving performance, stability, and efficiency across operations. The department works closely with production, engineering, logistics, and support functions to drive improvement initiatives and align with factory priorities. In parallel, it also implements lean best practices and embeds them into both processes and culture. This internship contributes to exploring how artificial intelligence can enhance recurring activities and enable smarter, data-driven ways of working. You will help translate improvement opportunities into practical solutions within a high-tech manufacturing environment.
In this internship, you will analyze workflows and explore how AI can improve recurring activities within the factory organization. You will collaborate with stakeholders across multiple functions to identify opportunities and translate them into actionable solutions. Your main responsibilities will be:
Map and analyze recurring activities across the department
Identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities in workflows
Explore and evaluate AI tools for practical business applications
Translate process challenges into realistic AI use cases
Propose solutions with clear business value and feasibility
Document findings through structured reports and presentations
Share insights to support ongoing improvement initiatives
This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both operational excellence and lean transformation. You will contribute to meaningful improvements while learning how AI can support real-world business challenges in a complex, high-tech environment.
This is a bachelor's internship (non-thesis) for a minimum of 3 months, a minimum of 24 hours per week (including 2 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026.
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence, data science, industrial engineering, business analytics, or a related field
Have an interest in applying AI within operational and manufacturing environments
Demonstrate analytical skills in process mapping and problem solving
Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
Show curiosity, ownership, and a proactive approach to learning
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter needs to include the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
