Position Summary:
The Department of Art at The University of Central Oklahoma, a NASAD-accredited department, is inviting applications for a full-time, one-year, temporary Assistant Professor position in Drawing and Printmaking beginning August 2026. The Department seeks a candidate with a strong studio and teaching emphasis in drawing and printmaking with a contemporary fine arts approach. The ideal candidate will be able to approach drawing/printmaking in a contemporary manner while emphasizing strong formal, technical, and conceptual skills as well as guide senior drawing students in their capstone projects. This expertise should be reflected in their CV and portfolios.
Position Overview:
Teaches, advises, and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the university's educational philosophy. Works collaboratively with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the UCO Faculty Handbook. Faculty are expected to support & facilitate the department/school/college academic and university missions, visions, & long-term goals.

The College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Central Oklahoma fosters artistic excellence, innovation, and leadership in the arts. With six academic units and over 200 annual arts events, the college emphasizes a welcoming learning environment and broad artistic perspectives. The Department of Art is committed to preparing students for careers in the visual arts through rigorous programs in studio art, art education, and art history.

Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will
- teach three studio courses per semester with a focus on upper-level drawing courses, Intro to Printmaking and Intaglio, as well as possible courses in Drawing I, Figure Drawing, or Color (dependent on enrollment)
- create a studio environment that encourages innovation, experimentation, and critical thinking and develop curriculum that is designed to introduce a variety of techniques, materials, and processes
- foster an innovative and welcoming studio environment
- participate in student recruitment in collaboration with the art chair and faculty
- additional responsibilities are expected in department, college, and university service

Required Qualifications:
- MFA in studio arts with an emphasis in advanced drawing and printmaking
- Minimum of two years full-time college-level teaching experience
- Strong knowledge of contemporary and historical issues in drawing and printmaking
- Demonstrate professional studio practice with an active exhibition and scholarly record
Preferred

Qualifications:
- Experience managing combined classes with different course levels is preferred
- Successful record of community engagement with students
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience teaching online and familiarity with learning management systems, e.g., D2L, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Adobe Suite, are a plus.
