Full Time (80 hours/biweekly)

Shift: Days (7:00am- 3:30pm)

Monday - Friday

General Summary

Performs a variety of functions related to implanted cardiac device management in the ambulatory and/or inpatient care settings. These electronic cardiac devices may include (but are not limited to) pacemakers, cardiac defibrillators, loop recorders and wearable monitors used for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. This is an entry level position requiring supervision by the Arrhythmia Tech II, Lead Arrhythmia Tech and/or Cardiac Device Nurse.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs in-clinic device checks with supervision. Identifies type of cardiac device by manufacturer. Assist in the interrogates and verification of device parameters and settings. Identifies rhythms, pacing and generator status of device. Takes appropriate and immediate action when abnormal results are identified.
  • Assists with patient remote monitoring that may include scheduling, downloading and analysis of clinical device transmissions, processing reports as well as assigning appropriate charges under supervision.
  • Performs post implant device site checks. Removes dressings, sutures/staples as necessary per established wound care protocols. Uploads photos to EMR as needed and ensures that wound care/assessment is documented as per office policy.
  • Performs application and monitoring of wearable cardiac devices if applicable.
  • Develops ability to identify arrhythmias and intrinsic cardiac rhythm utilizing internal electrograms and/or in conjunction with external cardiac leads.
  • Records and calculates all necessary parameters and makes programming changes as directed.
  • Documents information and reports in Cardiac Implanted Electronic Device (CIED) software and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) regarding testing, changes, and other communication per protocol.
  • Processes and submits all diagnostic testing to physicians for interpretation per protocol.
  • Obtains patient history, answers patient questions, and explains procedures.
  • If applicable, performs EKGs and other related examinations for patients as directed according to established standards and practices.
  • Works closely with other members of the device management team to ensure competency and accuracy of device management.

  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department such as results, treatment plan and various reports.
  • Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent patient information.
  • Adheres to established policies, protocols, objectives, quality assessment, safety environmental and infection control standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associates Degree From an accredited cardiovascular program. Preferred or
  • Certificate Program From an accredited cardiovascular program. Preferred

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year In Cardiovascular related education/training such as monitor, EKG and/or Stress Technician. Required
  • EKG, Cardiac rhythm experience, or basic CIED education. Preferred

Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Training such as monitor, EKG and/or Stress Technician. Upon Hire Required
  • Certificate from an accredited cardiovascular program. Upon Hire Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Multi-tasking.
  • Handles emergency patient events.
  • Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances.
  • Possible risk of exposure to airborne or contact diseases.
  • Subject to overtime hours.
