The outpatient Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) Resident is responsible for providing psychiatric services to clients in Sea Mar’s outpatient Behavioral Health sites and in Sea Mar’s medical clinics. The clients served in the Behavioral Health Program will have access to counseling and case management services, in addition to the psychiatric services provided by the Psych NP resident. The clients seen at the medical clinics by the Psych NP resident will be seen for evaluation and medication follow-up. The Psych NP resident does not provide counseling services.

The Psych NP resident is part of a care team working to provide quality comprehensive service to Sea Mar patients. The Psych NP resident will work collaboratively with staff to provide team-based coordinated care and will actively participate in the APP Residency program training.

  • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Resident (Psych NP Resident) is part of a care team working to provide quality comprehensive services to Sea Mar patients. The NP Resident will work collaboratively with staff to provide team-based coordinated care.
  • The Psych NP Resident consults with Behavioral Health clinical staff and Sea Mar medical clinic providers to review cases and provide recommendations about diagnosis, medications, and other treatment considerations.
  • The Psych NP Resident provides psychiatric care services to patients of Sea Mar Community Health Centers in accordance with training, experience, certification, insurance and licensure in a manner consistent with guidelines established in the principles of practice at Sea Mar and its mission statement.
  • The Psych NP Resident may refer patients to medical specialists or other sources of service when necessary.
  • The Psych NP Resident prescribes, manages, and/or dispenses required medication to patients according to the individual prescriptive authority granted by the Washington State Board.
  • The Psych NP Resident is expected to participate in clinical affairs, working with administrative personnel, the APP Residency Director, Medical/Clinical Director and the Chief Medical Officer to improve the patient care experience.
  • The Psych NP Resident provides care for special groups of patients such as those in nursing homes or other institutions when appropriate.
  • The Psych NP Resident will fulfill all residency requirements as detailed in the curriculum and as required by the APP Residency Director.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and interest in Latino/Hispanic culture is needed.
  • Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Medical Screening

Basic Education:

    • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner,
    • Active Washington state Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) and Registered Nurse (RN) licenses.
  • Medical Screening Requirements:
    • Pre-Hire and annual employee health screening required
    • Annual influenza vaccine required. Only exception is for employees with a medical or religious exemption approved by Administration. Employees with an approved medical or religious exemption must wear a mask at all time during the flu season.
  • Minimum Formal Training:
    • Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program (PMHNP).
    • National Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
    • To prescribe legend drugs, the ARNP must have notation of approval on license.
    • A current DEA certificate is required if applicant is requesting privileges to prescribe controlled substances.
    • This position must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR within 90 days of hire date and is required to maintain current BLS CPR throughout employment
    • Additional education may be required for some specialty areas.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Supervision
    • Supervised by: the APP Residency Director, Psychiatric Lead; the Chief Medical Officer; and the Program Manager or delegated administrator as appropriate.
    • The Psych NP Resident is evaluated at a minimum of twice per year by the APP Residency Director, faculty, staff, peers, Psychiatric Lead, the Chief Medical Officer, and the Program Director.
    • Interrelationships: The Psych NP Resident works closely with the APP Residency Program Director, APP Residency Site Director, Psychiatric Lead, Chief Medical Officer, Administrators and Executive Director to realize the programmatic goals of the organization.
