Job Description

The Area Vice President (AVP) focuses on building operations expertise and improving operations performance in assigned collection/hauling divisions within the Area. The AVP/AGM works with field operations leaders and teammates to ensure durability of standards and processes; this leader plays an essential role in building the capability of the field teams to consistently execute on LRS business plans and budgets and ensure the best experience for the Company’s customers.

Reports To:Chief Operating Officer

Organizational Leadership

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for growth in business volume, profitability, and cash flow.
  • Champion and support all LRS safety programs and safe operating practices. Work closely with the Area Safety team to support Company safety initiatives.
  • Build and sustain strong business relationships at all levels within the organization and with our customer leaders.
  • Lead and manage change initiatives within the business unit to support company goals and drive performance results.

Operations Management

  • Improve operational performance for all collection lines of business (commercial, industrial, residential, and portable services) by implementing processes to optimize services, costs, and risk reduction.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Company standards and best practice operating procedures.
  • Lead the continuous improvement strategies for operations and safety.
  • Collaborate with local site leadership to identify issues, lead root cause analyses, and develop remedial action plans. Provide targeted expertise to lead on-site activities to address cultural, process or operational challenges.

Financial Management

  • Be accountable for the full Profit & Loss of the business unit.
  • Ensure that the General Managers meet all their financial performance objectives through the development and implementation of sound budgets; manage variances effectively without compromising customer service and hold managers accountable for attaining financial goals.

People & Talent Management

  • Coach General Managers, Operations Managers and Supervisors in setting priorities to achieve organizational goals.
  • Develop talent and build high performing teams, both managers and individual contributors.
  • Work with HR to hire, train, and mentor managers and staff; build Business Unit talent and succession planning.
  • Conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews for all direct reports.
  • Develop the management team through coaching, development programs and exposure and involvement in operations initiatives.
  • Create a workplace culture that sustains employee engagement, commitment, and retention.

Revenue Growth & Market Development

  • Develop positive working relationships with community groups and municipalities.
  • Actively participate in LRS community engagement efforts.
  • Work closely with the field Sales organization to drive new business growth and renew existing business.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key customers in the market.

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Financial acumen and P&L management experience.
  • Effective and compelling leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills; able to relate to all levels in the organization.
  • Operational knowledge.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with deep attention to detail.
  • Data driven approach and comfortable working with Excel.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (related work experience will be considered).
  • 10 years of operations experience, preferably in the waste industry.
  • 5 years of experience managing teams.
