Job Summary

The Pittsburgh Pirates are seeking an Area Scout in the Dominican Republic to identify, evaluate, and provide comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball talent within an assigned geographic area.

The Area Scout will serve as a primary source of information on players, development environments, and market activity within their territory. This position will build trusted relationships throughout the local baseball community while providing timely, accurate information that supports the Pirates’ international scouting and player acquisition process.

Responsibilities

  1. Identify and evaluate amateur baseball prospects within an assigned territory in the Dominican Republic.
  2. Maintain consistent coverage of players and provide timely, accurate scouting reports and recommendations.
  3. Develop and maintain player preference lists aligned with organizational evaluation standards and philosophy.
  4. Capture video and collect relevant player information, measurements, and evaluation data.
  5. Maintain current knowledge of player movement, development pathways, trainers, programs, and market activity throughout the assigned territory.
  6. Build and maintain strong professional relationships with players, families, trainers, coaches, and other members of the Dominican baseball community.
  7. Organize and support player workouts, crosscheck opportunities, assessment sessions, and other scouting events.
  8. Collaborate with supervisors, crosscheckers, coordinators, and other scouts to provide comprehensive player evaluations.
  9. Assist with coverage outside the assigned territory and other scouting assignments as directed by department leadership.
  10. Support the player acquisition and signing process as needed.
  11. Responsibly manage travel and expenses in accordance with organizational policies.
  12. Continually pursue professional development and demonstrate curiosity toward new methods, technologies, and information used in player evaluation.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Legally authorized to work in the Dominican Republic.
  2. Fluency in Spanish.
  3. Strong communication and computer skills.

Desired:

  1. Fluency in English is a plus but not required.
  2. Prior experience in baseball, scouting, coaching, player development, or talent evaluation.
