THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity exists for a reliable and experienced Area Manager to join our team, overseeing concrete plants and major projects, including the T2D project across the metropolitan area.

Reporting to the Operations Manager Concrete - Metro, this position plays a key leadership role in driving operational excellence, safety performance and team engagement. The successful candidate will demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to safety, enjoy working within a small, high-performing team and take pride in delivering quality outcomes.

This multifaceted role acts as the critical link between management and site operations, ensuring that plant reliability, productivity, and compliance targets are consistently achieved. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, proactive problem solver, and collaborative leader who models our company values in everything they do.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to safety by consistently modelling and reinforcing safe work practices.
  • Lead, coach and support plant staff to ensure compliance with WHS and Environmental policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Conduct and oversee effective Toolbox Meetings and promote proactive engagement with employees and contractors on safety matters.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of hazards, near misses, and incidents in accordance with company policy.
  • Manage and maintain staff training matrices, ensuring all mandatory and competency - based training is current.
  • Oversee site staffing, rostering and performance management, including conducting regular feedback and development discussions with Plant Supervisors and Batchers in Charge.
  • Manage overtime, leave and timekeeping to ensure cost control and compliance with industrial
    agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal support services (SHEC, RTW, Payroll, People & Culture) to resolve
    operational and employee related matters.
  • Manage Return to Work programs for injured and ill workers in consultation with the RTW Coordinator.
  • Maintain oversight of plant maintenance, scheduling and reliability to minimise downtime and optimise performance.
  • Control financial performance for Repair & Maintenance, capital projects and waste within
    area of responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with National Heavy Vehicle Regulations (NHVR) and other relevant legislation.
  • Monitor raw material quality and usage, collaborating with internal stakeholders to resolve any
    product or supply issues.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities and implementing
    operational enhancements.
  • Promote a customer focused mindset across all plant operations.

QUALIFICATIONS | EXPERIENCE | CAPABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience in operational leadership within a manufacturing, logistics, or concrete production environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of WHS and Environmental management systems.
  • Previous experience in concrete operations or related heavy industry (highly desirable).
  • Sound understanding of computerised batching systems and raw material stock control.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and develop multi-site teams.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
