We’re seeking a Area Health & Safety Manager to lead Health & Safety improvement and performance in our America’s North Country Group. You’ll partner and coach our plant leaders and EHS professionals to drive a culture where safety and environmental performance is supported and valued.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead and influence plant leadership to improve H&S performance.
  • Enforces company policies/procedures and regulatory requirements set by federal, state/provincial and local law associated with health and safety.
  • Implement O-I’s Health & Safety Management System.
  • Drive EHS culture change through leading by example, coaching, mentoring, and engaging people at all levels.
  • Helps plants identify where they must improve. Assist sites with developing and implementing EHS improvement plans..
  • Coach and mentor EH&S Leaders to ensure they are developing and implementing EH&S improvement plans, mentoring plant leadership and driving an EH&S culture.
  • Ensure that plants have the proper tools guidance and support to administer HS programs.
  • Create standard programs and tools that are deployed to plants to improve H&S performance.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and advisor in assigned technical areas. (perform requirements review, data collection, analysis, conclusions and provide recommendations as appropriate)
  • Participates in incident investigation, root cause analysis , safety alert development and communication.
  • Leads and/or supports investigation and response to environmental releases and incidents.
  • Provide oversight and assistance at assigned facilities to improve workers’ compensation programs and lower costs through continued emphasis on Health and Safety.
  • Prepares required documentation and review for EHS capital projects.
  • Assist in the development of EH&S leaders at the plant level.
  • Drive culture change through coaching, mentoring and visible leadership.
  • Conducts training activities on site as needed.

SCOPE AND IMPACT

The position will be responsible for multiple plants within the North American region. It will lead efforts to assure that all H&S guidelines are successfully implemented at the site level. The Regional H&S Manager drives the compliance of all regulatory requirements, continuous improvement of the EHS culture, building capabilities and deploying best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EH&S, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment performing Environmental, Health and Safety activities or similar related experience.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Professional certifications (, CSP, CIH or CHMM, etc.) preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of EHS regulations and successful implementation through hands on activities.
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with site/regional leadership and site EHS professionals as a business partner, as well as employees at all levels.
  • Ability to creatively resolve problems and identify solutions through collaboration.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • A heart for protecting our workforce and the environment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports the Director, NA EH&S. There is a matrixed functional reporting relationship of the site EHS resources and there may be direct reports to this position.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Up to 75% travel required for this position.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is between $140,000 and $160,000 and includes a possible 15% quarterly incentive bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
