Area Head of Customs, Nordics

As Area Head of Customs for the Nordics, you will lead one of the region's largest Customs organisations, spanning multiple countries and approximately 400 colleagues. As a member of the Nordic Area Leadership Team, you will define the strategic direction of the business, lead large-scale transformation and build an organisation capable of delivering exceptional customer outcomes in a rapidly evolving trade and regulatory landscape.

This is a highly visible leadership role that combines business ownership, organisational leadership and transformation at scale. Success requires the ability to inspire followership, navigate complexity and deliver sustainable results through people.

The Role

As Area Head of Customs, you will be responsible for shaping the future direction of Customs across the Nordics, ensuring the organisation is positioned to support customer growth, regulatory excellence and Maersk's broader integrator strategy.

This is not simply an operational leadership role. It is an opportunity to lead a critical business through continued transformation, modernising ways of working, strengthening commercial performance and building a high-performing organisation prepared for future growth.

You will lead through leaders, influence across a complex matrix environment and create the conditions for teams to perform at their best while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, governance and customer service.

What You Will Lead

Business & Strategic Leadership

• Define and execute the Nordic Customs strategy aligned with customer needs, market opportunities and business priorities.
• Own overall business performance across financial, operational and customer measures, ensuring sustainable and profitable growth.
• Drive operational excellence, productivity improvements and continuous simplification across the organisation.
• Represent Customs within the Nordic leadership team and contribute to broader area strategy and decision making.

Transformation & Organisational Leadership

• Lead large-scale transformation initiatives that enhance competitiveness, customer experience and organisational effectiveness.
• Drive adoption of new technologies, standardised processes and modern ways of working.
• Create alignment and followership during periods of change through clear communication, visible leadership and strong stakeholder engagement.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and accountability.

People Leadership

• Lead, develop and inspire a multi-country organisation of approximately 400 colleagues through a strong leadership team.
• Build leadership capability, succession pipelines and organisational readiness for future business needs.
• Create an environment where people are empowered to perform, grow and succeed.
• Champion a culture of collaboration, inclusion, ownership and high performance.

Stakeholder, Compliance & Risk Leadership

• Build trusted relationships with customers, authorities and key stakeholders across the Nordic region.
• Ensure strong governance, compliance and risk management across all countries within scope.
• Balance customer, regulatory and operational requirements while driving business performance.
• Act as the senior escalation point for critical customer, compliance and business matters.

Accountabilities

• Delivery of financial, operational and customer performance targets across the Nordic Customs business.
• Execution of a clear and future-focused Customs strategy aligned with Maersk's integrator ambitions.
• Strong compliance outcomes and effective management of regulatory and business risk.
• Successful execution of transformation initiatives and adoption of new ways of working.
• A highly engaged, high-performing organisation with strong leadership capability and succession readiness.
• Continued improvement in productivity, operational excellence and customer experience.

What We're Looking For

• Significant senior leadership experience within a multinational and complex business environment.
• Proven success leading large, geographically dispersed organisations through leaders.
• Demonstrated track record of delivering business transformation, cultural change and performance improvement at scale.
• Strong commercial and operational leadership capability, with experience balancing growth, efficiency, risk and customer outcomes.
• Ability to influence across a matrix organisation and align diverse stakeholders behind common goals.
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to create followership, inspire teams and build high-performing organisations.
• Solid understanding of Customs, international trade, regulatory compliance or related environments.
• Experience within Customs, Logistics, Supply Chain, Trade Compliance or adjacent industries.
• Relevant degree preferred, with Customs or Trade Compliance qualifications considered advantageous.
