Job Description
Area Director of Operations – Illinois
Home Health & Home Care
Are you the type of operations leader who naturally spots what is broken, digs into the details, and drives teams toward better outcomes?
PurposeCare is looking for an experienced Area Director of Operations to support Home Health and Home Care operations across Illinois. This role is designed for a highly organized, data-minded, and action-oriented leader who can step into complexity, address operational gaps, and build sustainable processes across multiple agencies.
This position will play a key role in improving billing readiness, reducing aged unbilled revenue, strengthening authorization and EVV compliance, and creating greater accountability across operational teams.
If you enjoy solving problems, improving systems, and having direct but professional conversations when work is incomplete or inaccurate, this could be a great fit.
What You’ll Do
Drive Revenue-Impacting Operational Performance
- Identify and resolve operational issues that delay billing, reimbursement, or revenue recognition.
- Help reduce unbilled revenue greater than 30 days by uncovering the root causes behind delays and driving timely resolution.
- Partner with agency leaders and Revenue Cycle teams to address workflow breakdowns, billing barriers, incomplete documentation, and operational backlogs.
- Support cleanup efforts across both Home Health and Home Care operations.
- Evaluate payer-related trends to determine where the greatest operational and financial challenges exist across Private Pay, Home Health, and Home Care services.
Strengthen Authorization, EVV, and Billing Readiness
- Identify and address incomplete or denied authorizations that prevent services from being billed accurately and on time.
- Monitor Electronic Visit Verification compliance and help agency teams resolve gaps.
- Confirm that established payer rules and system workflows align with the services and visits being delivered.
- Improve consistency and accuracy across authorization, scheduling, visit verification, documentation, and billing workflows.
- Partner across departments to ensure operational requirements are completed before claims reach the Revenue Cycle team.
Lead Through Accountability and Problem Solving
- Address incomplete, inaccurate, or delayed work directly and professionally.
- Establish clear ownership, deadlines, and follow-up expectations.
- Delegate effectively while maintaining accountability for results.
- Escalate recurring issues, risks, and trends to leadership with clarity and urgency.
- Balance immediate backlog cleanup with long-term process improvements that prevent the same problems from returning.
- Help leaders and teams understand how their daily work affects revenue, compliance, and the overall health of the business.
Use Data to Drive Action
- Review operational and financial reports to identify trends, gaps, and areas of risk.
- Use Axxess and WellSky to investigate workflow issues and support corrective action.
- Analyze aged unbilled revenue, authorization performance, EVV compliance, and other revenue-impacting measures.
- Translate findings into practical action plans with measurable outcomes.
- Monitor progress and ensure agreed-upon solutions are consistently followed.
What Success Looks Like
During the first several months, the Area Director of Operations will be expected to:
- Develop a clear understanding of the current revenue and operational backlog.
- Identify the primary causes of unbilled revenue greater than 30 days.
- Reduce outstanding billing, authorization, documentation, and EVV issues.
- Build sustainable processes that prevent recurring breakdowns.
- Improve accountability and follow-through across agency teams.
- Strengthen collaboration between Operations, Clinical, Revenue Cycle, and other support functions.
- Create greater visibility into which payer types, service lines, and workflows require the most attention.
Success will be measured through improvements in areas such as:
- Aged and unbilled revenue
- Billing readiness and timeliness
- Incomplete and denied authorizations
- EVV compliance
- Adherence to payer and visit requirements
- Operational consistency across Home Health and Home Care agencies
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- A confident operator who is not afraid of professional accountability conversations.
- Highly organized and naturally process-oriented.
- Comfortable digging into the details to identify root causes.
- Able to balance urgency, delegation, ownership, and follow-through.
- Data-driven and comfortable using reports to guide decisions.
- Skilled at building sustainable solutions rather than relying on temporary fixes.
- Able to operate independently with limited day-to-day oversight.
- Comfortable escalating risks, trends, and unresolved issues when appropriate.
- Effective at partnering across multiple agencies, departments, and leadership levels.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of progressive operations or leadership experience in Home Health, Home Care, post-acute care, or another distributed healthcare environment.
- Strong understanding of revenue-impacting operational workflows, including billing readiness, authorizations, documentation, EVV, and payer requirements.
- Experience working across multiple payer types and service lines.
- Demonstrated success improving processes, resolving backlogs, and strengthening accountability.
- Experience supporting multiple locations, agencies, or operational teams.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously in a changing, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Work Environment and Schedule
- Illinois-based role with remote flexibility and regular in-office presence based on business needs.
- Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- Travel to Illinois agency locations may be required.
