Job Description
The Residence Life department seeks an Area Coordinator, Engagement and Leadership, to serve as a live-in professional responsible for the vision and operation of multiple residential areas housing 300+ students and support an academically oriented environment while maintaining living conditions which promote student growth and personal development.
Staff Supervision, Training & Development (30%)
- Supervise 9 Resident Assistants through regular one-on-one meetings, providing mentorship, accountability, administrative guidance, and professional development support.
- Lead the design and facilitation of comprehensive August and January RA training programs, including curriculum development, logistics coordination, staff development initiatives, and facilitate training committee processes, with support from the Residence Life professional staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations for Resident Assistants, providing structured feedback and ongoing coaching.
- Coordinate Graduate Assistant recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and transition processes.
RA Selection & Hiring (20%)
- Lead the Resident Assistant recruitment and selection process for approximately 200 applicants annually, including outreach, application review, interview coordination, candidate evaluation, and equitable hiring practices, with support from the Residence Life professional staff.
- Develop selection materials and evaluation tools, facilitate hiring committee processes, and support final staffing decisions.
- Coordinate Returning Resident Assistant selection processes in alignment with departmental staffing and performance needs.
Residential Community Management & Student Support (20%)
- Oversee daily operations for two or more residential communities, including shared Colleges of the Fenway (COF) facilities.
- Support residents through conflict mediation, roommate concerns, and room change processes.
- Monitor student welfare concerns and collaborate with Residence Life leadership and campus partners to provide appropriate support and referrals.
- Advise and evaluate Resident Assistant community engagement efforts and programming initiatives.
- Coordinate residential opening, closing, and break operations, including inspections, roster management, and administrative processes.
Cross-Institutional Partnership (15%)
- Serve as a liaison for cross-institutional residential partnerships within the Colleges of the Fenway (COF) consortium, collaborating closely with partner institutions to support shared housing operations, student support, and residential community management.
- Coordinate joint staff training, policy orientation, and cross-institutional programming efforts with consortium partners.
- Collaborate with partner institutions on break operations, building transitions, and end-of-year turnover processes.
Student Conduct & Emergency Response (10%)
- Serve as a hearing officer for alleged Student Code of Conduct violations, adjudicating cases and assigning appropriate outcomes.
- Participate in the Residence Life on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies, crises, and student concerns, including evenings, weekends, and university breaks.
- Provide crisis support, case management, and referral to appropriate campus resources.
- Develop and facilitate staff training on crisis response, emotional intelligence, and bias response.
- Serve on the CARE Team and collaborate with campus partners to coordinate timely, holistic support for residential students.
Summer Residential Program, Early Arrival Programs & Orientation (5%)
- Plan and implement the Summer Residential Experience, including RA supervision, community programming, conduct adjudication, and resident communications.
- Serve as a liaison to the University’s Early Arrival Programs, coordinating participant move-in and move-out operations and developing and facilitating training for program student leaders, with support from the Residence Life professional staff.
- Lead presentations and tabling at Summer Orientation for incoming residential students and families, representing the Office of Residence Life.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree required; minimum of two years of post-graduate experience in residential life or student affairs.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with members of the college community
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain attention to detail, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms; ability to learn and utilize data management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop large, multi-building staff teams and manage complex operational logistics.

Preferred:
- Familiarity with specialized or health science student populations.
- Experience designing staff training curricula and educational programming for student leaders.
- Experience managing residential communities between multiple buildings and/or campuses.
Physical Requirements:
- This is a live-in position; the Area Coordinator is required to reside in on-campus housing provided by the University.
- Regular movement between multiple residential buildings and campus offices is required.
- Ability to stand, sit, and move between floors of buildings throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10–15 lbs. as needed for training and event logistics.
- Normal range of vision and hearing (with or without correction).
- Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as required by the on-call rotation schedule.
